Nickname for Audrey

I love this classical name and it is now on our short list, but nicknames are important to my husband and we struggle to find any that come naturally.

Aud sounds a bit like odd . Any suggestions?

I honestly don't know 😆 His family has like ten nicknames for each person. I guess he just thinks Audrey seems too long and prefers a name with easy nickname options like Lili or Vivi, but I'm not a huge fan..

Audrey is beautiful and so easy easy to say, I'd never shorten it!

I come from a very nicknamey family but don't have a name that shortens easily. I'm sure she'll still acquire a nickname, it just might not be related to her actual name. Audrey is lovely and if you both love it, I wouldn't choose a name you love less just so it can be shortened.

Some of the suggestions are not only ugly imo but are just as long (2 syllables) as Audrey.

I mean Riri, Aura, Andy... Just stick to Audrey!

There are diminutives, like Aud, and then there are nicknames, like Toffee. Nicknames tend to come about spontaneously and don’t have anything to do with the actual name.

So there are no limits to giving your child a nickname.

Aud or Auds but like pp said it would evolve naturally. Both my DS have short names as we didn't want them getting shortened so we picked accordingly.

Yes. Nicknames evolve with the person. Shortening of names is a diminutive. eg Aud.

It seems to be a diminutive that the OP wants, rather than a nickname as such. Diminutives are affectionate (literally meaning 'making small').
They can be longer than the original name, often using repetition I guess to linger affectionately on calling the person. Audrey itself is fine, but if you want a more affectionate name based on it I would go with Didi or Deedee.

My Aunt Audrey is DeeDee.

I have an almost 9 yr old Audrey and it’s never been shortened by us or any of her friends or family. It might in future but so far it hasn’t happened naturally. Of course we have silly nicknames for her, they just aren’t shortened versions of her name.

But - Lili and Vivi aren’t any shorter to say than Audrey. They have less letters but they’re just as short and easy to say.

Maybe you could name her middle name so she can have initials? So if she was Audrey Jane you could call her A.J.

Other than that any shortening of Audrey that sounds like an everyday name is going to be a huge reach and a bit pointless if the name you like is the lovey Audrey!

One I know is Drey pronounced Dray. She's a mature woman though, not a baby.

That's was our aunts name and we called her Aunty,
