Nameless baby boy - help!

LO is 6 weeks old and nameless (yep, it's been a struggle). The top name picks are Oscar, Vincent, Jasper, Finn, Leonardo and Percy... I think. My favourite name is Caspar, but ex-p believes he'll be bullied.

Oscar - I like it, but too popular for my liking.
Finn and Percy - nickname names imo, they feel incomplete and I can't picture an adult with either name and I dislike any full versions of them.
Vincent - I can't decide whether I love it or hate it.
Jasper - similar sound to Caspar without the friendly ghost association.
Leonardo - would inevitably be shortened to Leo which is incredibly popular.

I like timeless names and those that are known but uncommon, such as my daughter's - Athena.

Thoughts on any of the top picks, any first name suggestions, any middle name combos for the listed names? Anything really, any kind of input, I'm tired of circling round and round with names after over 10 months! Thank you in advance Smile

I have a Francis which fits your brief.

I like Vincent. Your other potentials are a bit meh really.

BlueFlavour · 21/01/2022 22:24

@Sexnotgender
I was going to suggest Francis Smile
Lovely name.

I like Oscar the most. A friend of mine not long had a boy and they named him Theodore which is adorable!

MrsTimRiggins · 21/01/2022 22:34

I think you’re right to keep looking if you’re not convinced by any already on your list!
Names that I can think of along the ‘known but not common’ lines;
Hayden
Beau
Cassius
Nico
Tristan
Angus
Cormac
Torin
Wesley
Oryn
Douglas

nocoolnamesleft · 21/01/2022 22:40

Um, 6 weeks? Doesn't that mean you've run out of time to register the birth?

Ellmau · 21/01/2022 22:46

Oscar - OK.
Finn and Percy - Not super keen on either.
Vincent - ditto.
Jasper - love it.
Leonardo - only if you or your DP have Italian heritage. Leo on its own is OK.

Hector
Felix
Dexter
Julius
Lawrence
Raphael
Hugo
Maximilian

To be honest none of your names seem timeless to me. The all seem exactly the kinds of names I would expect a baby in 2022 to be called, but not names that I shared a classroom with. All except Percy are around the top hundred and with the exception of Oscar (which is falling back down now) all are rising in popularity. I don't think this is a bad thing, but as you said you wanted a timeless name, I don't think that's where you are. The problem is that timeless names tend to be either perennially popular (James, Edward, Thomas, William...) which you don't want or so out there they don't fit into any trend.

Not that I think that really matters, but worth mentioning it as you did. Jasper is my favourite from your list. Here are some names which are less used whose popularity doesn't seem to be rapidly changing though:
Cedric
Gideon
Gregor
Linus
Stellan

DropYourSword · 21/01/2022 22:52

I think Vincent goes best with Athena.

Oscar and Finn are lovely.

Jasper is okay.

Percy and Leonardo I would avoid.

sconosciuta · 21/01/2022 23:02

@FuggyPidding I guess you have to like Vinnie though...

That's what is steering me away from Vincent, I'm not keen on how Vinnie sounds.

@TheBeesKnee I do really quite like Caspian, I have it down as a middle name option, I don't think I'm bold enough to use it as a first.

Blubells · 21/01/2022 23:08

I like Caspar and Vincent! Or how about
Quentin
Marcus
Raphael

sconosciuta · 21/01/2022 23:09

@OrangeAndYellowAndBlue I don't think I have a set style, I'm quite eclectic with my name taste.

Evander, I do really like, I was set on it for half of the pregnancy, but I slowly kind of went off of it and now I'm not sure - I love how it sounds with Athena and I like the subtle mythology connection. Perseus, I feel like it hits mythology too blatantly, especially next to Athena.

@MissyB1 Your other potentials are a bit meh really.

That's how I feel about most of them too... that's what's making it so hard. Caspar is the only name I love, but I'm hesitant to use it due to ex-p's qualms about it.

EugeniaGrace · 21/01/2022 23:23

While Finn and Oscar are ok, Jasper I think is the best on your list for not being too popular but snappy.

I also like the nickname Lenny/Lennie from Leonardo or Leonard.

@OrangeAndYellowAndBlue 1920’s list is ace. Athena and Victor is a strong combination.

sconosciuta · 21/01/2022 23:27

@nocoolnamesleft Um, 6 weeks? Doesn't that mean you've run out of time to register the birth?

Technically yes, however as there have been a lot of delays to registering births due to covid, the soonest appointment I could get was May(!), unless I am offered a sooner date.
