Which do you prefer and why?
On my previous thread most people said that Luna is too popular for pets to saddle a little girl with so how about Una? Does it look incomplete?
Thanks!

I much prefer Luna. I just think it’s prettier.
I hate to say it but when I hear Una I hear “eww” like a sound of disgust - but I don’t with Luna! Might just be me though.

Heruka · 10/01/2022 09:20

I like Una best but do prefer the Oonagh or Oona spelling. Luna is ok but I think of ‘Loopy Luna’ when I hear it. She is a nice character but still!

Heruka · 10/01/2022 09:21

Ah that’s an interesting point pp makes, depends on dialect. In my accent it’s a straight ooo sound and not eww, that’s not as pretty.

SummaLuvin · 10/01/2022 09:22

I prefer Luna, I like the 'l' sound at the start. I also quite like Una, and I don't think it looks incomplete.

As a side note, this forum are currently obsessed with saying names are animal names, which I personally find excessive - unless you are naming your child Spot or Woof then I wouldn't worry if you like the name. I know dogs called Miriam, Millie, Ruby, Max, and Robert, human names are a popular dog name trend right now.

DrWankincense · 10/01/2022 09:22

Yeah I'd be one of the Luna is a pets name, sorry.
I really dislike it for a child.
Una is much nicer in my opinion.

TrashyPanda · 10/01/2022 09:25

Exactly!
Ohyesiam · 10/01/2022 09:28

Too me Una is a beautiful name, but Luna it’s too Harry Potter.
I can see why people think of it as a pets name because it sounds a bit of a joke name , or cartoon character name.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 10/01/2022 09:29

i like Una
Luna is very common, particularly with people's pets

Montague22 · 10/01/2022 09:38

Oona or Orla

KirstenBlest · 10/01/2022 09:51

Una

Frazzled2207 · 10/01/2022 09:54

Luna!

ISmellBurnings · 10/01/2022 10:45

Luna is popular for pets, but I really dislike Una. I would choose Luna given the choice.

NeedHelpWhatAreYourThoughts · 10/01/2022 10:47

I think they are both lovely. Have you thought of Luana? (Lu-arn-a).

LyraVega · 10/01/2022 10:48

I really like Luna! I don't understand the hate it gets on here tbh

DropYourSword · 10/01/2022 10:50

Me too @LyraVega. I think it’s a lovely name.

ISmellBurnings · 10/01/2022 10:51

How about Lola?

RuthW · 10/01/2022 12:18

Luna as I don't like that Una has two ways it can be said.

DreamReverie · 10/01/2022 13:13

I prefer Runa, but over the two i would pick Luna. There's also Aluna.
Runa also has such peculiar R problem, but it is my suggestion.

EishetChayil · 10/01/2022 15:05

Una.

Luna -> Lunatic.

thelittlestrhino · 10/01/2022 15:08

I know an Una and a Luna. Both lovely. Both horses, but then I'm not fussed about differentiating pet and people names.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 10/01/2022 15:28

I prefer Uma or Lana.

StrawberryFever · 10/01/2022 15:34

Luna is my favourite, don't know any pets called it, the only association it has for me is Harry Potter, which is a positive association as far as I'm concerned (and not an overwhelming one anyway).

If you're going with Una I'd also spell it how others have said - Oona/Oonagh

Chunkymenrock · 10/01/2022 15:37

Luna=loony/lunatic
Una=difficulties with pronunciation and quite frumpy
How about Lara? Fionnuala? (Pronounced Finula)

DrWhoNowww · 10/01/2022 15:44

I prefer Luna over Una.

Una has pronunciation confusion and I keep reading it as Ulna sorry. Although Oona/Oonagh is pretty and eliminates the confusion.

Also hard pass on Lana from a PP - I had a friend at school whose life was made hell when the year ten boys worked out her name backwards spelled Anal. She’s introduced herself as her middle name pretty much ever since.

KloppsTeeth · 10/01/2022 21:27

Una.

I know an Evaluna.
