Esme.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 05/01/2022 15:07

If it's to be pronounced Esmay then Esme if it's Esmee then I much prefer Dolcie. It's funny how even a slightly different pronunciation can make you love or dispise a name.

user1493494961 · 05/01/2022 15:12

Esme.

Playdoughcaterpillar · 05/01/2022 15:13

Esme. Dolcie makes me think of a pudding.

Goawayangryman · 05/01/2022 15:14

I've never heard Dolcie as a name. Dulcie, yes. I prefer Esme. Dolci's, for me, will always be a 1980s shoe shop chain.

emmathedilemma · 05/01/2022 15:18

Esme, no competition!

Blueuggboots · 05/01/2022 15:23

Dulcie?

WakeUpLockie · 05/01/2022 15:30

Dolcie makes me think of the shoe shop I’m afraid. I did know a Dolce once (pronounced as you would expect, ‘che’ sound at the end). That was nice.

Esme is ok! Dolcie very out there and Esme very not out there, so hard to pick between the 2 - depends what you want really.

OrangeAndYellowAndBlue · 05/01/2022 16:56

Esme is nice.

Dolcie might get misread as Dolce or Dulcie.

Bluebluemoon · 05/01/2022 16:57

Dolcie? Or do you mean Dulcie?

Dolcie makes me think of the 90's shoe brand so it's a no from me!

PattyPan · 05/01/2022 17:08

Esmé for sure. I’m assuming Dolcie is pronounced doll-sea? In which case it sounds like some sort of slang for stupid (like ditzy, dolt etc). As does pp suggestion of Dulcie (dull). With a ch sound I think of coffee (Dolce gusto)

HunterGatherer · 05/01/2022 17:12

Esme, its everywhere though.

Ohisitreally · 05/01/2022 17:59

Esme...pronounced Esme/not Esmayy !

TabithaTittlemouse · 05/01/2022 18:01

I prefer Dulcie over Dolcie.

forcedfun · 05/01/2022 18:02

Esme if pronounced " esmay" otherwise neither sorry

Firesidefox · 05/01/2022 18:12

Dolcie is slightly odd sounding.

Esme is better as it's an actual name.

MissBattleaxe · 05/01/2022 18:15

Change Dolcie to Darcy or Dulcie and either of those would get my vote.

PosiePerkinPootleFlump · 05/01/2022 18:58

I like Esme but I'm presuming with the accent on the e you want the Esmay spelling which I'm really not a fan of. But agree with previous posters Dolcie is strange and sounds like it should be Dulcie

BunnyRuddington · 05/01/2022 19:11

Prefer Dulcie. Dolcie makes me think if the old shoe shop Dolcis.

TheHuntingOfTheSarky · 05/01/2022 19:24

Dolcie isn't an actual name as far as I'm aware. Dulcie is, and is sweet for a baby but she'll hate you for it when she's older.

DramaAlpaca · 05/01/2022 19:25

Esme, pronounced EZ-me.

Not Dolcie, it's a misspelling of Dulcie which is both cutesy and ugly.

grey12 · 05/01/2022 19:28

@Playdoughcaterpillar

Esme. Dolcie makes me think of a pudding.
Was going to make the same comment Blush
pennysays · 05/01/2022 19:33

I disagree with everyone so far and much prefer Dolcie. I’ve never heard it but sounds lovely and is unusual. Not a huge fan of Esme but it’s a perfectly fine name. I think the connotations with sweet (Dulce in Italian) is really nice.

chaosrabbitland · 05/01/2022 19:33

much prefer dolcie , this is because though my dd when she was in junior school, had an esme in her form , spolit rotten , and a nasty little brat who was well known for her mean nature towards those not in her little gang , couldnt stand the sight of her and she was frequently looking mullish and pouty , cant hear the name without thinking of her spiteful little face and sadly its guilt purely just on association , but with no real rational reasoning behind it im well aware

Luredbyapomegranate · 05/01/2022 20:49

Esme, pronounced either way.

Dolcie probably would make me think you’d called her after Dulce and Gabbana (or poss dulce de leche..). It’s not a name really so will get misheard and misspelt a lot.
