What are your opinions on this name?
I would shorten to Frankie

Is it a nice name or is it masculine for a girl?

It’s lovely! Classic but not overused. I like it.

drpet49 · 02/01/2022 19:38

I like it but don’t like Frankie

MrsBungle · 02/01/2022 19:38

Love it.

foxgoosefinch · 02/01/2022 19:38

Oh and I know a little Francesca who is Francie, so there are other diminutives if you like.

SnowdropFox · 02/01/2022 19:40

I dont mind it, a lovely Francesca I know goes by Chesca, much prefer that to Frankie.

powershowerforanhour · 02/01/2022 19:42

Francesca Cumani who is on the presenting team gets called Chesca. It's a lovely name.

powershowerforanhour · 02/01/2022 19:43

*presenting team of ITV racing

JustMaggie · 02/01/2022 19:44

I knew a Francesca. She went by Frankie too. It's a nice name!

RoseMartha · 02/01/2022 19:44

Yes like it

GiraffeDancer · 02/01/2022 19:45

It’s lovely! I like Frankie too, tho I planned to use nicknames for 2 of mine and have never done so, it would feel weird now!

Hairyfriend · 02/01/2022 19:46

I had a friend at school called Francesca (Hungarian mother, Scottish father). I love it, but don't like Frankie at all though!

SalveVagina · 02/01/2022 19:47

Very nice

Onlinedilema · 02/01/2022 19:47

Lovely name.

SummaLuvin · 02/01/2022 19:47

I like it, and the nn Frankie. Not as fond of Chesca as a nn, but I could live with it. To me it is a feminine name that has a decidedly masculine edge, and I like that - the 'hardness' of the name is quite refreshing among frilly, twee, sweeter than sweet names which are trending right now.

PlainJane1000 · 02/01/2022 19:48

I adore Francesca but am completely put off it by all the Fran- based shortenings, Fran, Franny, Frankie... I think they ruin a beautiful name, but if you do like these then it's great.

Meredusoleil · 02/01/2022 19:49

I love it. Also like the nn Frankie.

Dd2 has one in her class. She goes by Fran for short!

A580Hojas · 02/01/2022 19:50

Completely beautiful name. Two of my dearest friends are Francesca and I can only have happy associations with this name. And everyone calls them both Francesca - no shortenings.

vodkaginwine · 02/01/2022 19:50

I love it but hate Frankie (it makes me think of Frankie Boyle) but love Cheska or Cici.

urbanbuddha · 02/01/2022 19:51

Love Francesca with Frankie as a nn.

NannyR · 02/01/2022 19:51

I love Francesca but not keen on Frankie at all. I do like Fran, Frannie and Cesca as shortening though.

Ikeameatballs · 02/01/2022 19:52

Love it.

LulusMiniEgg · 02/01/2022 19:52

I have a Francesca. One third of the family call her Francesca, one third Frankie and one third Cesca! She prefers Francesca (she’s 4) but answers to them all. She’s a bit of a tomboy so actually suits Frankie best even though it’s my least favourite. My auntie and uncle call her Fran which I hate (as does she and corrects them everytime!)

sadpapercourtesan · 02/01/2022 19:53

I think it's lovely

There was a thread on it recently that went absolutely bonkers, someone insisted that it was cultural appropriation to use it if you weren't of Italian extraction. Or some such bollocks.

harriet465 · 02/01/2022 19:55

Oh pleasantly surprised by the positive comments!
I love it and love Frankie as my grandma was Frances, but cannot fall in love with Frances for some reason

Francesca is a beautiful name but Frankie isn't. It's such a harsh, ugly sounding name.
