What’s your thoughts on this name for a boy?

I’m liking it more & more recently

I think it’s adorable. Would it be Joey or Joseph with the nn Joey?

Santahatesbraisedcabbage · 01/01/2022 15:38

Boswell springs to my mind.
Or a kangaroo.
My ds has Joseph as a mn after a relative.
Seems OK for a baby but too wet for an adult.

ThiagoSilvasToe · 01/01/2022 15:49

Joseph, with nn Joey is cute.

TenThousandSpoons · 01/01/2022 15:53

Cute. I’d use Joseph on the birth certificate though.

MadeOfStarStuff · 01/01/2022 18:51

As a nickname for Joseph it’s nice, i wouldn’t use it on its own

DragonMovie · 01/01/2022 18:54

Love it

Omicrone · 01/01/2022 18:55

I love it! Got to be a nickname for Joseph though as others have said.

MrsMoastyToasty · 01/01/2022 18:59

My first thought was Joey Tribbiani from Friends or Joey Bettany from the Chalet School stories.

Luredbyapomegranate · 01/01/2022 19:06

It’s fine as a nn for Joseph but not as a full name - it’s a baby Kangaroo! (It’s also nasty slang for someone with cerebral palsy or similar conditions, and you still occasionally hear that, unfortunately.)

RosieLemonade · 01/01/2022 20:39

DD suggested Joey for her baby brother yesterday actually. I like it a lot.

NearlyAHoarder · 01/01/2022 21:25

How YOO doin' 😏

Branleuse · 01/01/2022 21:28

Joe or Joseph surely would be the name. Joey is a nickname

Marmelace · 01/01/2022 21:37

My Uncle Jobe gets Joey at times.

Words · 01/01/2022 21:45

Joey is a fine name for a budgerigar.

emmathedilemma · 01/01/2022 21:52

I agree with @Words budgie was the first thing that came to mind!
Joe or Joseph is ok but Joey is awful.

dinahsdishes · 01/01/2022 22:07

Joey was a very offensive insult when I was at school

Scautish · 01/01/2022 22:20

Agree with dinahdishes - was used as an insult in a horrifically offensive way - another way of calling someone a spastic (I’m sorry to write that word and please be assured I never use it)

It was due to Joey Deacon who had cerebral palsy and appeared on TV and it was in the 70’s / 80’s (I think) when generally people thought taking the piss out of disabled people was perfectly acceptable.

It should be a lovely name but it’s tarnished in my view because of the association.

Fl0w3ry · 01/01/2022 23:08

I know a little boy Joey and like it. I prefer Joel though.

ThirdElephant · 01/01/2022 23:13

Doesn't share food!

Or a baby kangaroo.

I'd find a less cute name for the birth certificate.

Hopitihop · 03/01/2022 21:48

I think there are too many vowels in Joey and it also reminds me of Joie, the buggy!

Treecreature · 03/01/2022 22:10

I know a young Joey. I dislike the name strongly.

Feelingoktoday · 03/01/2022 22:13

My child is Joseph. As soon as he went to school it was shortened to Joey. But at secondary school it is Joe. He dislikes Joey because he says it is babyish.

Twinkleylight · 03/01/2022 23:20

Joseph on the birth certificate and then if he ends up as prime minister one day, he'll have a professional name to see him through. Joey as a nn is OK but too casual to be taken seriously as an adult. For eg. Joey from Fiends.

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 03/01/2022 23:24

“There will never be a President Joey”

dittymcdit · 03/01/2022 23:44

I have a Joseph and have always bee adamant that his name would not be shortened to Joey. Joe, fine. I hate Joey. I know an adult Joey and one 7yo who has it as a NN. Still horrible though.
