We decided on river for our daughter, partner asked for opinion from family member without telling her we have decided on it and she didn’t like it, still have decided on the name river thus far, but really annoyed she said she didn’t like it, would this bother you? And also these were the middle names we were thinking but don’t know which one sounds best:
River Rose
River Remi
River Rae
Just not sure which we like best or if anyone could recommend any other nice middle names with the initial “R” Also open to names without that initial but really like the double r

It's a triple r really. RiveR Rose.

Do you want our truthful opinions or just (potentially untruthful) reassurance?

Crispynoodle · 30/12/2021 22:47

I love it even with all the Rs I like River Rose best!

Ikeameatballs · 30/12/2021 22:52

I like River Rae best out of your three.
I think River Rose is a bit twee and I don’t think River Remi flows well, pardon the pun!

River Ruby
River Ronya
River Raine
River Renee
River Ramona

DebbieHarrysCheekbones · 30/12/2021 23:02

My friend’s son is called River Ray

whatausername · 30/12/2021 23:03

She's entitled to not like a name. You can hardly be annoyed at her, especially when she didn't have all the facts (i.e. that it was already decided on).

MajorCarolDanvers · 30/12/2021 23:16

Rose is nice.

I don't like any of the other names.

DoodleBelle · 30/12/2021 23:18

River Rose sounds the most suitable for a little girl

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 31/12/2021 00:55

While I actually really like River, it is quite "now" as well as unisex - so I would personally give her a classic/traditional, more obviously "feminine" middle name so she has more options if River is not her style/taste when older.

Rose is the best of your current choices in that regard, even if it is a bit ubiquitous as a middle name - you could perhaps consider more uncommon names with the "Rose" sound like Rosanna or Rosalie instead? Or perhaps the full Rachel, or even Aurelia (still has a strong "r" sound) instead of trendier Rae or classic Rebecca instead of more unisex Remi?

whysoserious123 · 31/12/2021 01:29

River Roe
River Rowan
River Revel
River Ross
River Rye
River Riley
River Ruth
River Rue
River Ri Ri

DramaAlpaca · 31/12/2021 01:40

I don't like that double 'R' so I can't help, sorry.

Love Rose though.

Nancydrawn · 31/12/2021 01:43

I think that you can't ask for opinions about a name, without telling someone you were set on it, and then be mad that they didn't respond the way you had hoped.

Generally I advise people not to tell the name at all before the baby is born, because even when people know you've chosen it, they can be judgey. It's reasonable to be annoyed at them then. But without telling them you've chosen it? You've set them up to fail.

River Rose is the best of that lot.

KloppsTeeth · 31/12/2021 05:32

River Rae

I would avoid River Rose because the river rose and caused a flood. It is part of a sentence.

Mumofgirls2017 · 31/12/2021 05:42

I like River. Although if I was going to use it I’d go with a safer or more classic middle. It’s a difficult one to pair with a middle though as it can sound like an actual river if that makes sense. River Rose is nice although it could sound like a type of rose!

River Annabelle
River Madeline
River Penelope
River Juliet
River Clementine
River Emily
River Rosalie
River Amelie
River Ottlie
River Athena
River Sophia
River Estelle
River Isabelle

Synchrony · 31/12/2021 08:26

River Renata?
I don't think River Remi flows but like the other two.
I feel sorry for the sister! Don't blame her for giving her truthful opinion on what, as far as she knows, is just a random name! Not everyone will like whatever name you pick. And they'll get used to it when a real baby is here.

MerryChristmasToYou · 31/12/2021 09:46

I don't like any of them but Rose is nice as a first name

How about Rhone, Rhine or Ribble?

OrangeAndYellowAndBlue · 31/12/2021 10:48

As River can be used for boys too, I'd give her a more obviously feminine middle name.

If you like double R, how about:

River Rebekah
River Renée
River Rosaline
River Rosamund
River Rosalie
River Rachel

Luredbyapomegranate · 31/12/2021 14:18

Why are you annoyed?! You asked her for an opinion and she gave you one.

I don’t much like it, and think it will date, but there are worse names. As it’s unisex and non-traditional I would definitely give her a traditional female middle name - so of your options River Rose.

user1493494961 · 31/12/2021 15:25

I think it's awful.

deadlanguage · 31/12/2021 15:35

River is not a nice name but River Rae is really terrible, stripper-esque. River Rose is the least bad of your choices but I really don’t think it’s a good idea to have a middle name starting with R, they run into each other and what if she can’t pronounce Rs!

RussianSpy101 · 31/12/2021 15:37

I only know of 2 children called river and they are boys so I would go with rose if you really want to call your daughter river.

EgbertNoBac0n · 31/12/2021 19:35

I know a River Rose, she’s a cool little kid and the name really suits her!

Chunkymenrock · 31/12/2021 19:38

Rose is completely overused as a middle name. Rae is absolutely awful and sounds like an old man. Remi is the best of the lot.

WhoppingBigBackside · 31/12/2021 19:51

Wiver Wose, Wiver Wae or Wiver Wemi.

Cwy-y-y-ing...

A fwend of mine says r as v.

Viver Vose...

WhoppingBigBackside · 31/12/2021 19:54

Wiver has made me think of a much nicer name for your baby:

Weaver. Weave as a nn.

River in Cheshire.

whysoserious123 · 01/01/2022 14:15
