Pronounced Safeera. Nickname Saffy.
Meaning is from Sapphire, Gem, beautiful. It's a biblical name, although not a positive one.

It's ok but I imagine she'll get called Sapphire quite a lot. How about Seraphina?

Marlena1 · 30/12/2021 18:46

I think it's gorgeous. Different but not difficult to pronounce.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 30/12/2021 18:51

Hmm. My first thought was Zafira, like the car. Not keen.

inheritancetrack · 30/12/2021 18:58

Yes, sounds like the car

Lollipoppit · 30/12/2021 19:04

Love Seraphine/Seraphina but not keen on the Sera nickname at all.
We don't mind the car connection, it's weak at best.

I definitely thought of the Vauxhall thing too, just thought you couldn't spell

tazzy73 · 30/12/2021 19:25

Sorry, the car came to my mind first also.

Love Saffy though.
Would you not go with that, if you're going to call her that anyway on a daily basis.

I don't get picking a name and automatically having a ready made nick name, thats probably just me though.

Taz.

littlemisslozza · 30/12/2021 19:29

Saffron, if you like Saffy?

WhoppingBigBackside · 30/12/2021 19:36

Awful

JamieFrasersBigSwingingKilt · 30/12/2021 19:37

I also thought of the car.

I read it as Sapphire too. A lot of name correction if chosen
InTheLabyrinth · 30/12/2021 19:50

I've seen it as an f version.
pph in the middle is a bit unusual. If you are going for Saffy, why not Safira/Saffera?

SquigglePigs · 30/12/2021 19:54

I think it's pretty.

NannyR · 30/12/2021 19:56

I thought of the biblical character in Acts first, I agree, it's not a particularly positive person to be named after.

DotDotDotDotDot · 30/12/2021 19:56

I just had a quick google and the biblical story would put me off to be honest. I agree though that Saffy is a great nickname. I’d go for Sapphire, Saffron or Safiya instead.

givemepiece · 30/12/2021 19:59

I know a Xafira, yes it's like the car but that only ever crossed my mind once and now I just see it as a lovely name

AlDanvers · 30/12/2021 20:02

Sorry, when I was sounding it out I thought 'oh like the car'.

But I am not a fan of the bible story either. Its a nice name, but I think the bible story and car have ruined it.

I donr think the car link is weak tbh.

Bellafrenum · 30/12/2021 20:06

I think it is a great name

This🙄
AnnaSW1 · 30/12/2021 20:13

It makes me think of the car straight away

Luredbyapomegranate · 30/12/2021 20:28

It’s OK - I know it’s biblical but it sounds fairly Disney

I think Seraphina, Serena, Sanchia are much nicer

MondayYogurt · 30/12/2021 20:35

It's the name of the dragon in the Eragon series of fantasy books. She's blue.

Don't worry, the film version was not successful and I doubt many people would make the link.

Adventsquirrel · 30/12/2021 20:38

My first thought was also Vauxhall.

I know a teenaged Safiya nn Safi - I prefer that.

IDontDrinkTea · 30/12/2021 20:40

So pronounced like a Vauxhall Zafira?

My dad used to drive one. We called it the Loser Cruiser as it’s a proper ‘dad’ car 😂

(No offence to other Zafira drivers intended!)

RedCandyApple · 30/12/2021 21:00

Car 😂
