Gretaburley · 26/12/2021 12:41

Eee! No. What are tha thinking lass.

BrutusMcDogface · 26/12/2021 12:41

The way many children mix up the f sound with the th- nope.

BrutusMcDogface · 26/12/2021 12:42

I’m not a fan of Cora or Nora but they might work for you?

Mittenmob · 26/12/2021 12:43

This, and the electronic chair of despair
Santahatesbraisedcabbage · 26/12/2021 12:43

Not Nora either.. Batty name.

MysticCT · 26/12/2021 12:44

I immediately thought of Thora Hird.
Sorry but I don't like it.

GreenBeanMcGee · 26/12/2021 12:45

I love it. It's a beautiful name.

CheshireCats · 26/12/2021 12:48

It's an ugly name.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 26/12/2021 12:49

I really like it. I think Thora Birch rather than Thira Hird (although TH had some cracking lines in Dinnerladies).

I have Thirza a few times in my family tree, I really like that too.

evilharpy · 26/12/2021 12:50

I think of Thora Birch rather than Thora Hird, and I do like it, but as someone said the thought of her being called Fora rather than Thora would put me off. There's a Theo and a Thea in my daughter's class and half the children (and some parents) call them Feo and Fea.

Crabapple04 · 26/12/2021 12:54

I think I actually like it! It is an old lady name but then lots of old fashioned names have come back into fashion again. It's quite pretty, Thora, unusual and surely it's only over 40s that would have heard of HirdGrinShe wasn't a bad person...

HacerSonarSusPasos · 26/12/2021 12:56

Nope. Theodora with Thora as a nickname if you really must

MoominMeggy · 26/12/2021 13:24

Wow - really surprised by the Thora hate 😞 Is it really that bad? I love the meaning - thunder. I think it's much prettier sounding than similar names like Thea or Cora. I get that Thora Hird springs to mind, but no one under the age of about 20 will gave heard if her now surely? Plus she was s successful actress... it's not like I suggested Myra...

Thora Hird was lovely. I like it

GreenBeanMcGee · 26/12/2021 13:26

I think it's much prettier than a lot of old "granny" names that are popular now.

I don't see why Thora Hird is an issue.

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 26/12/2021 13:26

You say Thora, you hear Hird, for most people I think.

KirstenBlest · 26/12/2021 13:26

It's much nicer than Thea and Cors

Emerald5hamrock · 26/12/2021 13:27

Awful.
I met a baby boy named Thor it is a silly name as silly as calling a baby hulk.

The100thHoliday · 26/12/2021 13:32

I really like it! I know a teenage Thora and it really suits her. I did briefly think of Hird when I first met her, but now I think of her when I hear the name. It’s unusual and lovely.

CluelessHamster · 26/12/2021 13:32

I quite like it. If Ada and Nellie (my Gran and her best mate!) can make a comeback then I don't see why Thora can't Grin

Lot's of Flora's around though so she might find herself correcting people a lot.

CluelessHamster · 26/12/2021 13:33

Floras - don't know where that rogue apostrophe came from!

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 26/12/2021 13:37

I love it if that's worth anything. There was a character called Thora in the Chalet School if I recall correctly.
Have never seen Thora Hird (?) act so no odd associations.
I also like Nora but I know someone called Nora and she is a young and beautiful woman so no again ancient and decrepit associations.
Names are what you make them though I draw the line at Egbert

TenThousandSpoons · 26/12/2021 13:38

My first reaction was no but now that I’m thinking of it as a female Thor I quite like it! Much prefer it to Cora and Nora. But agree with pp saying lots will pronounce it Fora, likely including the girl herself until a certain age as th is hard for kids to say.

dinahsdishes · 26/12/2021 13:43

Thora is rhyming slang for turd
