Is this crazy?

So my partner loves Monty as a name and although I don’t love it I don’t hate it.
I’d rather he had a ‘proper’ first name however I really don’t like Montague/Montgomery…
Would I be crazy to call him Beaumont?
I think I’m sold on the meaning beautiful mountain…but for him to be called Monty as a nn.

Not so keen personally but it's up to you obviously. It's a surname so it's not crazy to use it as a first name.

Lamont is another surname in a similar vein. You could get Monty from that, too.

normanthegonk · 24/12/2021 19:24

I like it

COL1N · 24/12/2021 19:27

I like it too!

deadlanguage · 24/12/2021 19:28

Yes you are right to think it’s crazy. it’s not a name. Really dreadful. Monty is bad too, that’s a dog’s name!

BeLessMe · 24/12/2021 19:28

The problem with that is, regardless of what you want as a nn, school friends inevitably pick their own versions.

In might be fine in primary but his first day in HS, and the register being called, is going to ensure that at least a handful of people will decide to call him something else. HS kids are brutal.

floatinginmyhomie · 24/12/2021 19:28

I think it’s lovely

HettytheHoover · 24/12/2021 19:32

Honestly think Monty is a name in its own right.
So much emphasis on ensuring people are called exactly what they want to be, doubt full names will ever be used in 10 years time, eg first HS register.

AuntieStella · 24/12/2021 19:33

It's not exactly my taste in names, but yes I think it's workable

DotDotDotDotDot · 24/12/2021 19:37

I’m not keen sorry. I strongly associate it with Beaumont housing estate. Although if you don’t live anywhere Near East London you probably won’t care. I’d just name him Monty if that’s what you’ll call him most of the time.

I know 3 x Monty’s

2 kids
1 dog

Helpstopthepain · 24/12/2021 19:43

I really like it

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 24/12/2021 19:54

Just Monty is okay imo. I might assume Montgomery or Montague but I think it's used enough on it's own. Beaumont isn't my personal taste (probably as I don't like "beau" much, although obviously it is a boys name in it's own right.)

WhoppingBigBackside · 24/12/2021 19:55

You could use Montgomery or Montagu(e) or Montmorency or Montavian etc
You could use just Monty
You could put something different on the BC and just use it as a nn for Matthew or Michael or Martin or something

Cotswoldmama · 24/12/2021 20:00

I like just Monty as a name in its own right.

GlitterBiscuits · 24/12/2021 20:04

My neighbours have a pony called Monty.
I think you will find more 4 legged Montys than baby Montys.

whatausername · 24/12/2021 20:16

Beaumont sounds like something I'd expect to hear on an American reality tv show where the parents are trying very hard to be "classy".

I'd just use Monty if that's what you both like. You're just as likely to get Bo as a nn from Beaumont anyway.

DialsMavis · 24/12/2021 20:21

I loved Monty but didnt use on account of Withnail and I

dittheringdoldrums · 24/12/2021 20:25

I know quite a few young Monty’s but personally I think it's a name for a cat or a dog Confused

Holbrook9 · 24/12/2021 20:37

I love it. You could have Beau or Monty. People use all sorts of names for pets so don't let that put you off. Most people just don't have enough kids to use up all their names so use them on pets. I've known pets called Dave, Colin, Margot and Florence. Beaumont is lovely.

inmyslippers · 24/12/2021 21:10

I'd just use monty

RuthW · 24/12/2021 21:55

Love it

CocoRocco · 24/12/2021 23:04

I much prefer Monty to Beaumont. Beaumont sounds very pretentious to me, sorry! Monty is absolutely fine as a full name, I’ve met several.

Dindundundundeeer · 24/12/2021 23:10

Beaumont is a school in St Albans.

Monty is fine as a stand alone name. There are just about as many pets called Alfie and Max and Archie as children so dont let that argument put you off
