Libatius for a Boy

SummaLuvin · 12/12/2021 09:21

Pronounced Lye-Bay-Shus.

Came across the character Libatius Borage while re-reading Harry Potter and thought Libatius is actually a lovely name. Wondering what MN thought of it? I had a look on darkgreener and it isn’t in any use. Bit out there? Or a charming name that deserves more attention?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Libatious Rees-Mogg

CouncilHousedAndViolentBaby · 12/12/2021 15:31

What about Labia for a girl? 😍

Only joking, it's awful

NynaeveSedai · 12/12/2021 15:33

Sounds like libellous or libation
Neither of which are nice meanings

Chachasha · 12/12/2021 15:34

No.

It sounds too like libelous

SeasonFinale · 12/12/2021 15:39

Libatius - sounds like he has a nasty case of libatius

Yourforever · 12/12/2021 15:42

I like it. I think it's a better middle name though.

Musmerian · 12/12/2021 15:42

Constantine is great and you can shorten it to Con. Libatius is bonkers.

OakPine · 12/12/2021 15:48

Why don't you change YOUR name to that ridiculous name if it makes you happy?
Give your child a normal name for fucks sake - I despair.
Poor child!

Newduvet · 12/12/2021 15:48

Sounds like something that grows on your foot from a dirty swimming pool changing room.

JaneJeffer · 12/12/2021 15:48

Contanstine is so lovely and DH is on board with it.
Don't give him a name you can't spell.

Skeumorph · 12/12/2021 15:49

Don't worry! To quash any fears Mumsnetters have I can confirm this name was rapidly vetoed by DH, so not even a distant possibility. Like I said in a previous post I just like the sound of it and was curious to see what others thought.

You're missing the point. People aren't scoffing at an 'out-there name' or even a new name - the thing is that it's a joke name - like in Monty Python where the wife is Incontinentia.

All this thread shows is that you don't know what the word libation/libatius means.

repottingthescabious · 12/12/2021 15:57

@MrsColon

Honestly? Sounds like one of Jacob Rees-Mogg's kids.
^this

please don't be so pretentious. Your child will be picked on for life.

repottingthescabious · 12/12/2021 16:00

Constantine is dreadful.

Pick something classic like James or Matthew.

Much nicer for the child to bear especially if he is already lumbered with a double barrelled surname..

stalkersaga · 12/12/2021 16:07

Tbh, yeah, if you already have a pretentious-sounding double-barrelled surname, the best way to not sound like a red-trousered Establishment wanker is to give him as sturdy, classic and short a name as possible. James, Thomas, all the classics.

Rakoffscott · 12/12/2021 16:12

Are you Jacob Rees Mogg?

LaTomatina · 12/12/2021 16:17

Have you considered Balonz?

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 12/12/2021 16:19

Sounds like how you'd describe the average daily mail article. Or someone who drinks heavily. Or a random Latin utterance that Boris would say during a speech.

Sorry, OP. What about Lysander?

Snuggledupforwinter · 12/12/2021 16:20

Libayshus. Just no. Poor wee soul!

BuddhasBigBelly · 12/12/2021 16:23

Labia for short?

Figgygal · 12/12/2021 16:25

Utterly ghastly really

BettyfromBristol · 12/12/2021 16:27

Good grief no. (That's the second time I have said that on a baby names thread this week).

NeverDropYourMooncup · 12/12/2021 16:35

wasn't the name Wendy made up by the author of Peter Pan

I doubt it very much. Variations upon the theme of Gwendoline, Guinevere, Wendell, Arwen, Olwen and suchlike have been around for far longer - it's in my opinion, just the first time a diminutive was used in a book.

AngelinaFibres · 12/12/2021 16:41

Just tattoo 'punch me' on his forehead. The result will be the same for the whole of his life

NotAshamedToFancyTheGrinch · 12/12/2021 16:46

What about Arsenius Jigger? That’s also from Harry Potter.

NotAshamedToFancyTheGrinch · 12/12/2021 16:50

@NotAshamedToFancyTheGrinch

What about Arsenius Jigger? That’s also from Harry Potter.
Nickname: Arsey ? 🤔
