I'm not finding out what I'm having , but in my brain I'm only finding girls names because i already have a boy 🤣but obviously it could well be a little boy again which I would be delighted with!!

Some girls names I have are

Fleur
Olianna
Avianna
Riona
Ainè
Evelina

But my husband is not liking many of them !!

The only boys names I have are

Ezra (which husband Hates )
Rowan

I am open to anything but would love some ideas of unique boys and girls names !

Thank you

Rowan is lovely but getting much more popular. A similar, more unusual name could be Ronan? Or maybe Cian or Dara?

Áine is spelled like this - lovely and quite rare. Ailis is another more unusual Irish name at the moment.

Riona is nice too.

I know a lovely Eliana - you might like that too, based on your list.

I'm with your husband, tbf.
I'm inclined to think there is a good reason why very few people use particular names Smile

Is there a reason why it has to be 'unique' ? (not that all the names listed are unique)

Sunnygirl2021 · 07/12/2021 22:24

Thank you for all your suggestions everyone 🙂

@kite22

I'm aware that not all the names are unique, some are just names I like.
I work in a school so many nice names don't always sit right with me if I now a student with that name! That's why I was hoping for unique names that hopefully won't be to popular in the school (although I'm aware I could call my child said name and then a new student start with that name )

Was just hoping for a name that isn't currently to popular, and a lot of friends/ friends of friends have had babies in the last few months with names I did like but I just wouldn't choose the same name as a friend who has that name for their child

If you want 'unique', you'll have to make one up.

Philandbill · 08/12/2021 06:05

The difficulty is that you can't predict what will happen with the popularity of a name. My late teens DD has a name that was very unusual when we chose it (old but not made up name). When she was about 10 it rocketed in popularity, no idea why as there isn't a famous person or character with the name. You just can't predict things long term I'm afraid.

Unique means that there is only one which means that you will need to make something up, surely? Unusual is quite a different matter.

WhoppingBigBackside · 08/12/2021 13:24

Ezra and Rowan are very popular, but may not be popular where you live

Of the girls' names I only like Fleur.

Olianna - looks made up
Avianna - Avian means relating to birds, e.g. avian flu
Riona - irish, rhymes with Fiona, which is nicer
Ainè - use the Áine spelling. Pronunciaation and spelling issues
Evelina - name of hospital

toastofthetown · 08/12/2021 17:59

I'm not sure what you mean my unique names. Both you boys names are in the top hundred which would be too popular for me. If popularity is a worry, then I'd avoid Evelina as well. Though it's not popular itself, Eve, Evelyn and Eva are all in the top fifty, so the name won't feel very different.

If you are in England and Wales this website is a great resource for popularity. The graph really helps to you to get a feel of where a name is going and help you to avoid a name on a sharp upward swing.

I LOVE Evelina and had it on my list. It's one of my favourite novels by Frances Burney.

Sunnygirl2021 · 08/12/2021 18:12

@toastofthetown I never said I thought the names on my list were unique. I was just giving some that I liked.

I was simply asking for some unusual/ less popular names to also think about.
