Madeleine - love it but some people might pronounce it ‘mad-uh-line’ instead of ‘mad-uh-len/lyn’ which might irritate
Imogen- nope
Arwen- nope nope nope
Esther- love it
Tess- love it
Sabrina- really not keen

cptartapp · 06/12/2021 15:18

Madeleine - no
Imogen - ok
Arwen - sounds like a male name. No.
Esther - love it
Tess - short for? Doesn't stand alone well.
Sabrina - witchy

Natalie, Erin, Erica, Meredith, Zara?

KirstenBlest · 06/12/2021 16:01

Madeleine - fine but she'll be Maddie
Imogen - fine but she'll be Immy
Arwen - dislike it
Esther - nice
Tess - like it
Sabrina - pk but wouldn't use it

I'd choose Tess

toastofthetown · 06/12/2021 16:41

Madeleine - love Madeleine, but make sure that you are ok with Maddy
Imogen - bit dull, but nice enough
Arwen - probably will get a fair few Lord of the Rings comments
Esther - it’s ok, not bad, doesn’t thrill me either
Tess - I like Tess, it’s sweet
Sabrina - it’s nice enough, I think there is a reboot of the Teenage Witch series at the moment, it that bothers you.

CanofCant · 06/12/2021 17:14

My favourite are Sabrina, Imogen and Tess. Arwen would be a topical choice!

user1493494961 · 06/12/2021 17:27

Madeleine, Imogen and Tess are nice. Not keen on Esther, dislike Arwen and Sabrina.

Fl0w3ry · 06/12/2021 17:32

I like Imogen best.

AhhWoof · 06/12/2021 17:51

Love Imogen and Tess. Timeless classics.

weegiemum · 06/12/2021 17:58

My ds would have been a Madeline if he'd not been a boy (we went off it again for dd2 who is a Rachel).

I like Esther of your other choices. I also like Elspeth (but I think yhats fairly Scottish, like us).

MoominMeggy · 06/12/2021 19:09

Interesting comments so far, thanks everyone. I kind of feel a bit sad that no one likes Arwen - I think it's beautiful. I know it's from LOTR but it's starting to feel a bit less 'out there' to me.

I absolutely love Esther and Tess, both amazing names.

Luredbyapomegranate · 06/12/2021 20:09

Love Sabrina, an underused Roman goddess there..
also really like Arwen - I think it was Welsh before LOTRs? Olwen is another

I would go for one of the above, because the rest of your choices are more popular, but -
Esther is getting more popular and is lovely, there are too many E names around though
Madeleine - fine, not mad about the inevitable Maddy
Imogen - ok, slightly twee, getting very popular (part of the continuing E and I name trend I assume)
Tess - likable, very much a diminutive though - if you don’t like Teresa, I’d at least call her Tessa. Tess is sometimes used as a diminutive for Elizabeth also.

Panacotta · 06/12/2021 20:20

Madeleine - love
Imogen - meh
Arwen - meh
Esther - prefer Elsie / Elise / Eloise
Tess - no
Sabrina - prefer Sabine

Panacotta · 06/12/2021 20:29

Ideas:

Ophelia
Marigold
Delphine
Sylvie
Layla
Lucia
Violet
Paloma
India

jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey · 06/12/2021 20:44

Love Tess

Can I Chuck Nell in the mix ?

hopingforabrighterfuture2021 · 06/12/2021 20:49

All nice names. My favourite is Esther, I think.

wishing3 · 06/12/2021 20:52

All nice, I love Tess with second place to Imogen.

angelaEhen · 06/12/2021 20:55

Love Tess

NeverTrustaChristmasPud · 06/12/2021 20:58

Madeleine - it's ok I like it when I hear it, but wouldn't pick it personally
Imogen - yep, lovely name and she doesn't have to be an Immy - mine is Mimo!
Arwen - very Tolkien. I like it
Esther - yep, lovely
Tess - No!! sorry it's a dog's name.
Sabrina - it's ok, but I'd prefer Sabine or even Tabitha over Sabrina.

Have you considered:

Penelope - nn Nellie
Jude
Genevieve
Vivienne
Honor
Verity
Rebecca

VenusClapTrap · 06/12/2021 21:00

Esther! So classy.

IgneousRock · 06/12/2021 21:01

I love Esther and Tess. Not keen on Sabrina. The others are OK.

Pippapet · 06/12/2021 21:06

How about Saskia? I think it's beautiful and timeless.

MoominMeggy · 06/12/2021 21:07

Could Tess be a nn for Esther I wonder?

OP posts:
Eyeskydry · 06/12/2021 21:09

I prefer Anwen to arwen. A bit softer sounding.

IgneousRock · 06/12/2021 21:21

Yes I love Tess as a nickname for Esther.
