Great-grandfathers were Francis Charles (known as Frank), Ronald Ernest, James Herbert (known as Jim/Jimmy) and Henry (always called Harry).

Grandfathers were Ronald Charles (known as Ron), Hugh Stanley (or "Uncle Stan") and Peter.

I know someone whose daughter had a little boy during the summer and called him after her late grandfather. The daughter never really knew her grandfather, but my friend and he were really close, and she cried when her daughter introduced her to her Dad's namesake. I thought it was a lovely gesture and a way of keeping his memory (he was a lovely man) alive.

I was lucky enough to have 3 Grandads (one was a step grandad but loved me like his own) and all 3 were called John. My paternal grandfather was known and called by his middle name as his father was also called John. My dad was given the exact same name as his father. No imagination in my family!
