It was my Nan's name. Is it too old-fashioned?

I absolutely love it.

toastofthetown · 11/11/2021 16:50

It’s not old fashioned at all. It’s hugely popular. Top fifty and still rising.

NigellaSeed · 11/11/2021 16:54

Love it, love it, love it. Pretty, not cutesy.

CrackerGal · 11/11/2021 16:55

Good strong name, I have a young relative named this 🌟

Heckythump1 · 11/11/2021 16:56

I think it sounds like like violent, I can't get over this fact, so I just don't like the name.

TurnUpTurnip · 11/11/2021 16:57

I didn’t think it was old fashioned? It’s quite a common name even now

Aquamarine1029 · 11/11/2021 16:58

It's not old-fashioned, it's just very overused imo.

BrunoJenkins · 11/11/2021 16:59

Same. Also it would annoy me that some people would pronounce it with 2 syllables and others with 3.
LadyMonicaBaddingham · 11/11/2021 17:00

Pretty without being twee. Definitely growing in popularity though, if that bothers you.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 11/11/2021 17:01

Love it!!!

WingingItSince1973 · 11/11/2021 17:04

My nearly 1 year old niece is called Violet. Love her name. Xxx

ultimatekat · 11/11/2021 17:10

I love it! My nana is called Violet and I always loved the name Smile

EishetChayil · 11/11/2021 19:35

Violent.

DramaAlpaca · 11/11/2021 19:37

It's a lovely old fashioned name that's had a surge in popularity recently. I've never actually met one though.

Thepennysjustdropped · 11/11/2021 19:40

I love it, it's very pretty, but I do know a boisterous little one and do always think of her as Violent.

Skeumorph · 11/11/2021 19:52

Last of the flower names to be revived… for a good reason!

It’s really harsh. One letter away from ‘violent’. Vi is the most awful short form!

Yes it’s popular because it’s the dog end of a trend right now. It will drop out of favour quickly.

MimiDaisy11 · 11/11/2021 20:03

I like it and although it's in the top 100 it's in the 40s, so not too popular. UNlikely to have other girls with the same name in her class. It was going to be the name we chose if we had a girl

RAFHercules · 11/11/2021 23:43

Like it, also like Viola

RAFHercules · 11/11/2021 23:46

A violet by a mossy stone, half hidden from the eye, fair as a star, when only one is shining in the sky.

Skeumorph · 11/11/2021 23:59

A Violet by a mossy stone
Half hidden from the eye
It was indeed her given name
But alas, they called her Vi.

RAFHercules · 12/11/2021 00:11

Grin I guess! ....and the actual poem is about a Lucy anyway!
MrsEricBana · 12/11/2021 00:14

Lovely.

TatianaBis · 12/11/2021 00:14

Love.

unknownstory · 12/11/2021 00:16

Atozofpoodles · 12/11/2021 03:32
