Thoughts on Violet?

It was my Nan's name. Is it too old-fashioned?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I used to like it, but now it's too trendy along with poppy, daisy, ivy, willow, rosie, iris etc. They're going to be everywhere.

dooders · 12/11/2021 11:39

I really love it!

Maybe it seems old fashioned to you @superandyroo because it reminds you of your nan but it seems like it may be becoming popular from the responses here.

Doubledoorsontogarden · 12/11/2021 11:55

I love it!! I tried so hard for a Violet, do it for me

gonetothecleaners · 12/11/2021 11:58

Sounds old not a huge fan.

RuthW · 12/11/2021 12:11

Definitely not old fashioned. Very up to date.

raintropics · 12/11/2021 12:13

Sounds like Vile or Violent to me. Sorry!

vanillaskies · 12/11/2021 12:45

I called my daughter Violet and she gets compliments all the time!!

PeriChristmas · 12/11/2021 13:10

Love.

emmathedilemma · 12/11/2021 13:25

It's nice and the first time I heard it i thought "oh that's nice and a bit different" but now it seems to be becoming increasingly common and is probably the girl's version of Theo and Rueben which now leave me thinking "oh not another"!

SnowdropFox · 12/11/2021 17:37

Love Violet! Beautiful name.

bloominglovelyorange · 12/11/2021 18:30

I love it
Beautiful
Not old fashioned

WyncyG · 15/11/2021 14:46

I love it, my niece has it as her middle name otherwise it would be on my short list if this baby's a girl.

LittleGwyneth · 15/11/2021 14:50

I like Violet a lot - Lottie is a very sweet nn. Also very into Viola.

MonsteraDeliciosa · 15/11/2021 18:00

It was my granny’s name, so I love it!

16HamstersCalledThemAllDave · 15/11/2021 19:40

I love it. Letty is a fabulous name too

VenusClapTrap · 15/11/2021 19:44

I love it. It always gets called over-popular on these threads, but I’ve never met one, despite having two primary aged children.

Greenmarmalade · 15/11/2021 19:48

Lovely and not so uncommon anymore as pp have said.

PickupaPenguin8 · 15/11/2021 19:49

It’s my favourite name.

Edenember · 16/11/2021 10:15

I’m not personally keen as one letter away from violent and it’s all I hear. But to answer your question, the old-fashioned thing isn’t an issue.

Dozer · 16/11/2021 10:16

Love it, DH vetoed!

CambsAlways · 17/11/2021 18:18

Lovely name

VanillaAndOrange · 21/11/2021 17:38

I feel like I ought to like it, as I like violets (the flowers) themselves and I have known some nice children with Violet as a first or middle name. But I'm old enough to remember the actress Violet Carson and I still have this mental picture of a rather fierce old lady, and I also hate it when people pronounce it with 2 syllables (a thing I'm rather fussy about, as my own name has the potential for similar mangling). So it's not really my thing, sorry. Old-fashioned in itself needn't be a problem - my granny's name was Ivy and I would consider using that, but there's only one way to pronounce Ivy!
