Thoughts on Violet?

It was my Nan's name. Is it too old-fashioned?

I used to like it, but now it's too trendy along with poppy, daisy, ivy, willow, rosie, iris etc. They're going to be everywhere.

Maybe it seems old fashioned to you @superandyroo because it reminds you of your nan but it seems like it may be becoming popular from the responses here.

It's nice and the first time I heard it i thought "oh that's nice and a bit different" but now it seems to be becoming increasingly common and is probably the girl's version of Theo and Rueben which now leave me thinking "oh not another"!

I love it, my niece has it as her middle name otherwise it would be on my short list if this baby's a girl.

I’m not personally keen as one letter away from violent and it’s all I hear. But to answer your question, the old-fashioned thing isn’t an issue.

I feel like I ought to like it, as I like violets (the flowers) themselves and I have known some nice children with Violet as a first or middle name. But I'm old enough to remember the actress Violet Carson and I still have this mental picture of a rather fierce old lady, and I also hate it when people pronounce it with 2 syllables (a thing I'm rather fussy about, as my own name has the potential for similar mangling). So it's not really my thing, sorry. Old-fashioned in itself needn't be a problem - my granny's name was Ivy and I would consider using that, but there's only one way to pronounce Ivy!
