Francesca or Zara?

DS (age 3) is Matthew and Baby 2 is due in a few weeks. We think we have a boys name that feels right but we are trying to settle on a girls name.

We think we're down to Francesca or Zara.
Which would you go for?

Other girls names that have been on the list but that we think we are less keen on have been Elodie, Edith, Clara and Nancy.

Francesca! It’s beautiful.

Geamhradh · 05/11/2021 16:53

Francesca.
Love it.

IAAP · 05/11/2021 16:54

Zara

Sounds lovely

Elisemum · 05/11/2021 16:55

Zara! It was my name for a baby girl since I was 12:) I have two boys but if I had a girl it would have been Zara:) such a cool name

RavenclawsRoar · 05/11/2021 16:56

I like both but I think I'd go for Francesca. Love Matthew too!

Jessbow · 05/11/2021 16:57

Nancy is lovely with Matthew.
I always felt sorry for my infant school friend Francessca- such a long name to write, especially if you have a longer surname

stayignorant · 05/11/2021 16:57

Love Francesca and nn Frankie Smile

HumunaHey · 05/11/2021 16:58

I really like both but I'd go with Francesca.

You can change/shorten Francesca (Fran/Frankie/Cheska) so it'd give your potential daughter more freedom to assert her own identity if she's not keen on Francesca. But you can't do much with Zara.

cptartapp · 05/11/2021 17:00

Zara

Fabuleuse · 05/11/2021 17:54

Francesca

siblingrevelryagain · 05/11/2021 17:57

Biased as I have a Frankie (Francesca officially).

Haven’t met anyone who didn’t love it (although do people actually say if they don’t like your child’s name Grin)

DramaAlpaca · 05/11/2021 18:00

Zara by miles, I love it.

I really dislike Francesca and Frankie (sorry to those posters above who have one!)

ScoobyWooo · 05/11/2021 18:10

Interesting thoughts so far - thank you all

@siblingrevelryagain Thankfully I don't think most people would saythey think a name is awful once a baby has arrived (unless they're particularly rude!!) but I guess that's why sounding them out on an anonymous forum before they arrive is useful!

100 responses of "you seriously can't call a child that" would probably make me reconsider Grin

SilverOtter · 05/11/2021 18:19

Zara❤️

OrangeAndYellowAndBlue · 05/11/2021 18:23

LOVE Francesca, and Zara is also great. Can't go wrong!

MrsBertBibby · 05/11/2021 18:42

Zara by far the better name. Not at all keen on Francesca.

ParmigianoReggiano · 05/11/2021 18:44

Zara from your top two. I also love Clara from your list.

Chunkymenrock · 05/11/2021 18:44

Zara, without a doubt.

santabetterwashhishands · 05/11/2021 18:47

Zara by a mile

AntiHop · 05/11/2021 18:47

They are both beautiful names and go very well with Matthew. I'd chose Francesca as I like a name with a lot of diminutives. It was on our short list for dd2.

KimchiJjigae · 05/11/2021 18:55

We almost had a Zara Francesca. Went for Zara [family name] in the end but I clearly love both names. Zara of course! Wink

KimchiJjigae · 05/11/2021 18:56

That was supposed to say went for Zara "family name" but it's snowing up as a wink on the app Confused

MerryMarigold · 05/11/2021 18:57

I love Francesca. I feel Zara is a lot more popular and, I don't know, a bit of a 'princess' name (maybe it means that). Matthew is a beautiful, underused, classic name and I think Francesca is the same.

SierraJulietGolf · 05/11/2021 18:58

Love both but Francesca is my favourite. Gorgeous, classic name
