Gabriella

I never thought id consider an -ella name given how Ellie and Ella have been enduringly extremely popular since I was a kid. Annabelle, Arabella etc do absolutely nothing for me but I keep coming back to Gabriella. Both Gabby and Ella don’t excite me but don’t really offend me either, just meh. But Gabriella is a bit of a mouthful? I realise it’s a bit dated too. But I like it! I dunno, what does the hive mind think?

It’s very pretty as a whole name, but I really dislike Gabi as a nickname and there are a lot of Ella’s out there. Also a lot of letters for a small person to learn to write, but I’m sure they’ll get there.

FriedasCarLoad · 05/11/2021 16:32

I think it's a very pretty name. It'll almost certainly end up shortened at some point though.

Zarene · 05/11/2021 16:33

I really like it. I know one shortened to Brella.

ItsReallyOnlyMe · 05/11/2021 16:34

Very pretty name - have your thought of Gabrielle just to take one syllable out of it ?

CarrotCakeMuffins · 05/11/2021 16:35

I know a Gabriella, now a teen called Gabby by her friends. Its a beautiful name and not heavily used.

HollowTalk · 05/11/2021 16:35

Beautiful name.

TurnUpTurnip · 05/11/2021 16:35

I like it a lot but it will defo be shortened hence why I wouldn’t use it

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 05/11/2021 16:37

I have a Gabriella- she’s gabby to us. I loathe Ella. I think as she gets older she’ll become G

MrsFoxyplease · 05/11/2021 16:37

Love it.
I think it will be shortened to Gabby or Ella though so if I used Gabriella I'd try to get in there first with the choice of nn. when people started.

Our eldest has a unusual shortening for a common name and we had no problem insisting on the shortening we wanted. So that’s a good point. Good to see people have used it even while loathing Ella 😄 I see the name is generally well liked from this thread so that’s great!

Gabrielle is lovely too. All the Gabbys I’ve known have been really fab. Gabrielle seems SO grown up! But they’ll be a grown up most of their life won’t they!

I know a lovely Gabrielle who goes by Gabs. I think it's a gorgeous name

Nellesbelles · 05/11/2021 22:17

Love it. I knew one shortened to Riri which I thought was cute.

mrsrobin · 05/11/2021 22:21

Lovely name :)

EishetChayil · 05/11/2021 22:30

"Gab" is a very ugly sound, but the full name Gabriella is pretty.

SuitcaseManor · 05/11/2021 22:32

I know a 7 year old one who's known as Gabriella and another aged 13 who's called Bella for short.

Hoolihan · 05/11/2021 22:34

I have an amazing and beautiful friend called Gabriella BUT it does get shortened all the time to Gab which I don't love.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 05/11/2021 22:36

Beautiful name
Gabriela the Italian version of Gabriella was on the list for my DD along with Daniela too.
Didn't use them in the end as I had a name I loved even more.

spaceghetto · 05/11/2021 22:36

Beautiful!

Phoenix76 · 05/11/2021 22:51

Another “love” vote here. My dd8 has a friend with this name, lovely girl and they’re in year 4 and my dd never says a shortened version of her name, they all call her by her whole name!

Pumpkinsonparade · 05/11/2021 23:17

We have a Gabriella. Known as Gabby.
She is a ddog though!!

My 14 year old niece is Gabriella, she goes by Gigi - it’s a stunning name

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 05/11/2021 23:25

I used to teach a Gabriella (uni age) and she suited the name so well - she is also a really beautiful girl. She did switch between Gabriella and Gabi.

ThirdElephant · 05/11/2021 23:26

It can be Abbi or Brie, as well as Gabby and Ella.

peterpointerpickedapeck · 05/11/2021 23:34

I really like the name, my friend shortens it to Gabi, I really like Ella too though.
