Baby Name and Partner Name

Mumtobe2042 · 01/11/2021 13:55

My partners name is Luke but we both have fell in love with the name Luca for our bubs! Does anyone think the names are far too similar? Is it odd to have a Luke and a Luca?! I keep going round in circles!

Personally I find them too similar. And a little unimaginative.

daydreamingnightowl · 01/11/2021 14:41

Love the name Luca. Don't give two sh what others think. If you have fallen in love with it, then that's your little ones name!

I couldn't have cared less what anyone thought of our babies name and didn't ask for opinions from family etc. We loved it and we love our baby so no brainer really.

Above poster is unimaginative, not you.

KirstenBlest · 01/11/2021 14:51

Give the baby your surname and the names will be less similar

Talipesmum · 01/11/2021 14:52

I do think it’s too similar, sorry. But only my feeling - obv do what you like!

Blubells · 01/11/2021 16:49

Don't give two sh what others think.

But that's exactly what op wants - others' opinions!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 01/11/2021 18:17

People will assume he was named after his Dad, but if that doesn't bother you then it's absolutely fine imo. I know a few men with the same name as their dads (although it's probably much more uncommon in this generation) - they just go by a nickname, which some people might think Luca is for Luke!

TurnUpTurnip · 01/11/2021 18:19

I think it’s fine

Aquamarine1029 · 01/11/2021 18:22

It would be too similar for me, but I wouldn't think negatively about someone else using Luca if the dad's name is Luke. In my eyes it's just a matter of opinion, and your opinion isn't wrong.

ParmigianoReggiano · 01/11/2021 18:23

I love both names but I wouldn't do this personally.

DoodleBelle · 01/11/2021 19:10

Not terribly unusual to name boys after their fathers. Wouldn’t be my cup of tea but I don’t see anything wrong with it.

MrsTerryPratchett · 01/11/2021 19:32

I wouldn't do it personally. However DH and FIL have the same name. DH uses his middle name. Pick a good middle name and he'll have a choice.

One caveat, post is annoying when two family members have the same names. Will DS have your surname?

MrsCardone · 01/11/2021 19:34

I like it. Luca sounds like a diminutive of Luke.

aimss4777 · 01/11/2021 19:35

I like it! Seems totally fine to me.

resm · 01/11/2021 19:51

Love both Luke & Luca. I don’t see a problem with sons sharing the father’s name, and in this case it’s not exactly the same so sounds refreshing as child still has his own name.

GlitterBiscuits · 01/11/2021 19:52

Both nice names but I'd think the dad was on an ego trip if I heard that he'd called his son another variant of his own name.

Marlena1 · 01/11/2021 20:04

I think it's lovely. I would think it was done on purpose (after him in a way) but I'm quite fond of that.

BeKindBeYou · 01/11/2021 20:16

I think it’s great! A tribute but still with his own name!

LublinToDublin · 01/11/2021 20:19

It sounds a bit "mini me" for my liking

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 01/11/2021 20:19

Far too similar

TuftyMarmoset · 01/11/2021 20:22

I like Luca but I don't like it when parents name their kids after themselves so I think the names in this case are too similar. What about Louis?

elenacampana · 01/11/2021 20:26

As far as I know, it’s the Italian version of Luke so sort of the same name, just different languages.

What you name your baby is totally up to you OP. Go with your gut! (As Luke from Gilmore Girls would say.)

Mumtobe2042 · 01/11/2021 20:34

Oooh Louis is a good suggestion I hadn’t thought of! Boys names just seem to be so much harder to choose for me!

DramaAlpaca · 01/11/2021 22:38

I don't mind it. They are similar but if you love it, go for it. Louis is nice too.

Leeloo1233 · 02/11/2021 13:08

I mean think of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith's kids: Willow and Jayden Grin

thewhatsit · 02/11/2021 13:16

we both have fell in love with the name Luca well yeah, he likes his own name!

I think it’s fine but you are basically naming your child after their father.
