What do you think of Tesni? Welsh name, meaning 'warmth from the sun'. Would the nickname 'Tess' work?

Lovely meaning, I’ve never heard of it, did instantly think of Tesla.

NeopreneMermaid · 30/10/2021 21:01

That's what my husband calls testicles. He grew up in Wales. Sorry.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 30/10/2021 21:07

Lovely name. I also think the nn Tess works well (although if you don't particularly want a longer version/Welsh name, I also think Tess is nice on it's own).

DramaAlpaca · 30/10/2021 21:10

It's pretty and I love the meaning. I'm sure Tess or even Tes (pronounced the same) would work as a diminutive, if you even need one as it's a short name.

riotlady · 30/10/2021 21:13

I like it but I have a friend called Tesni and she gets “Chesney” a lot

olderthanyouthink · 30/10/2021 21:13

The meaning is beautiful but it sounds like Chesney to me which I'm not a fan of

olderthanyouthink · 30/10/2021 21:13

@riotlady snap!

BrumBirth · 30/10/2021 21:14

Not keen, agree it sounds like Chesney

sproutsandparsnips · 30/10/2021 21:24

What about Teleri?

Narnianoon · 30/10/2021 22:33

Ah, I hadn't considered the similarity to Chesney...

Not a fan of Teleri.

Maybe just Tess then...

If it's pronounced tess-nee I like it. Less so if it's tez-nee.

Narnianoon · 30/10/2021 23:03

Yep, it's tess-nee

Teslin is a pretty name if you like Tesni.

RAFHercules · 30/10/2021 23:19

Gorgeous. Sounds nothing like Chesney Confused especially if you are in Wales.

Shasha17 · 31/10/2021 01:27

Love Tess, but I think Tesni sounds a bit product-like.

viques · 31/10/2021 01:28

Inset backwards. Perfect for a teachers child. Not.

Clementineapples · 31/10/2021 01:31

Sounds like a business name and a quick Google shows it is the name of several businesses. I’d also pronounce tez nee

TaraR2020 · 31/10/2021 01:32

Tess is beautiful though!

CatonMat · 31/10/2021 01:35

I am the one and only!
Nobody I'd rather be..

That's the first thing to come to mind, but the name and the meaning are both lovely.

Snugglybuggly · 31/10/2021 01:37

Awful
Pick a normal name

TaraR2020 · 31/10/2021 01:40

Careful snuggly, it's a Welsh name so your post sounds a bit zenophobic!

Namechangedforthethousandthtim · 31/10/2021 04:05

It really doesn't.

People are allowed to dislike names from other countries Hmm

GogLais · 31/10/2021 09:21

There is a lot of ignorance about Welsh names, as @Snugglybuggly's post shows

GogLais · 31/10/2021 09:24

@Namechangedforthethousandthtim, Wales is part of the UK. Some posters on here might live in Wales

And yes it did seem xenophobic.

If you are welsh-speaking @Narnianoon, use it, but if you just want to Tess it is a perfectly nice name in itself.

GogLais · 31/10/2021 09:25

Tesni is pronounces Tess-ny not Tezney
