Love, love, love Edison. Also love Darwin but DC’s dads hated them both.
Emerson not so much, not sure why but it just doesn’t float my boat.
Although Oscar is a great name it is really, really popular where I am, there’s one in every class at DD’s primary school

From your girls list my favourite is definitely Amber.
I also love Jasmine and Violet. I prefer Violet of the two but there’s definitely more of them around compared with jasmine or Amber.

lampback · 28/10/2021 17:00

Yas! Someone who loves Edison! It's the only boys name myself and dh are going towards loving.

Darwin...now there's a name I hadn't thought of. I kind of like it. Not least because it will rile a few of the holier than thou religious members of my extended family 🤣 they think Darwin had the Devil in him (and has said that I too have the Devil in me 😇)

I love Edison too! It’s very cool

raintropics · 28/10/2021 23:10

Since making my comment on here yesterday, Edison has really grown on me! I'm surprised Raven is so unpopular here.

lousanne · 29/10/2021 07:08

Oonagh sounds like 'unagi'
(Said in Ross Gellar's voice)

mneters · 29/10/2021 07:38

I prefer Ola to Uma.

Love Edison!

MrsBertBibby · 29/10/2021 08:30

Violet : dislike strongly.
Raven : very try hard
Scarlett : ugly. It is a disease
Jasmine : a bit meh
Lily : pretty but done to death
Una / Oonagh : not keen, Oona is a nicer spelling . Eunice?
Amber: very 90s. Not great.

Edison : OK
Emerson : Lake & Palmer
Oscar : good.

Tamsin
Bryony
Edith

Conrad
Torin
Elias

Edison is gaining popularity!

OP posts:
LouLion · 29/10/2021 19:34

Girl:
Violet - lovely
Raven - not keen
Scarlett - no keen
Jasmine - not keen, bit disney princess, will be shortened to Jazz
Lily - bit wishy washy
Una / Oonagh - ok
Amber - bit 80s

How about - Juliet, Fern, Lyra, Rowan, Sylvia?

Boy:
Edison - no
Emerson - no
Oscar - like

How about - Emrys, Otis, Rowan, Leon, Aidan?

Fivebeanchilli · 29/10/2021 21:39

Violet - nice.
Raven - don't like this at all
Scarlett - I like this. Pretty and sassy. I prefer Saskia which has similar vibes for me
Jasmine - it's ok. A bit dull.
Lily - nice. Popular.
Una / Oonagh - this was discussed recently. I don't say them the same. It's on Una as YOO -na and Oonagh as OO-na. I quite like them both though
Amber - don't like this at all sorry

Boy:
Edison - don't like at all
Emerson - have a soft spot for this because of a book I read. But it's a bit surnamey for me
Oscar - I like this

TatianaBis · 29/10/2021 21:58

Love Violet.
Like Jasmine and Lily but the latter is old hat.
Scarlett, Raven, Amber are all dated hippy/goth names.

Of the boys I only like Oscar which like Lily is done to death.

Edison just sounds very Essex. If he’s going to be Eddi he may as well be Edward or Edgar which are much nicer.

Nannyamc · 29/10/2021 22:05

Have a new baby in the family in the last few days and called her Rosie really suits her for a boy they had Teddy

MintyCedric · 29/10/2021 22:16

I like Raven and love Oonagh (admittedly because it's the name of a very cool/funny character in one of my favourite books).

Inspired by the suggestion of Otis for a boy, would Maeve be another possibility for a girl?

Oscar is my fave of the boys names but I don't dislike either of the others.

lampback · 29/10/2021 22:20

Not keen on Edward, Edgar or Maeve...keep the suggestions coming though!

PiesNotGuys · 29/10/2021 22:25

Edison - I’m not on board with patriarchal naming traditions so to me that just sounds like Ed’s/Eddie’s son. Which is an odd one for a first name but even odder if he’s not Eddie’s son.

Raven - difficult if you only want to name her this if she’s dark. You probably won’t know how dark she is or isn’t for months, for years. Eye colour at newborn isn’t fixed. Hair colour changes, so some babies born with lots of dark hair can be blonde on their first birthday and then who knows after that.

Sleepinghyena · 29/10/2021 22:26

Raven is horrible. Harbinger of death. Eats carrion (decaying flesh). What awful associations for a child's name.

PiesNotGuys · 29/10/2021 22:36

Girls -

Violet, Jasmine, Lily, Amber, Raven are all nature names. So maybe you might like Flora, Pearl, Stella, Lillian, Blossom, Sapphire, Juniper, Fern

Edison, Emerson, Oscar, no noticeable theme but to my ear maybe these might catch your eye - Archer, Milo, Tristan, Orson, Calvin, Lucian, Cassian, Dorian

lampback · 29/10/2021 22:39

Pearl and Lillian I like. I also like Lilleth and so does my dh. Fern...hmm...not considered this...I like.

Orson I like but dh does not

Thank you for the suggestions

OP posts:
PiesNotGuys · 29/10/2021 22:48

Lilleth or Lillith?

Lillith is a night hag/monster so goes well with the meaning of Raven! Very different to Lily!

Willow? Wren? Ursula, Minerva.

Jasper, Frey, Orion, Dante, Edgar, Briar

lisaandalan · 29/10/2021 22:54

Scarlett
Violet
Amber.

Emerson.

lampback · 29/10/2021 22:56

I was of the understanding that Lillith the first wife of Adam, a symbol of equality between man and woman, as they were made by god from the same clay (unlike Eve who was made of his rib). She also fucked Adam off because she refused to be subservient. Lileth rocks 🤘

Can't use willow or minerva. Ursula is the sea witch and can only be the sea witch.

For boys I like Seth, Nate, James, Adam, Zach, Oscar, Sebastian. Atticus?
For girls Matilda, grace, Laura and most of the ones you've said. My DD is named Sofia after I'd said I always wanted a daughter called Grace. We said the same thing, if she's got dark hair she's Sofia, if blonde she is Grace. Don't know why.
