25 weeks pregnant and don't know the sex...so still have a way to go. Got loads of girls names and not so many boys. Very happy to hear any suggestions too!

Girl:
Violet
Raven
Scarlett
Jasmine
Lily
Una / Oonagh
Amber

Boy:
Edison
Emerson
Oscar

What do you think?? Any you love or hate and for qhat reasons? Thank you for humouring me in my totally bored of being pregnant phase 😁

@EurghCobwebs

I like them but they are very popular on name boards on MN.
I guess they are popular in real life too. Which doesn't bother me a great deal. I have an unusual name which I have to spell out and correct over and over. Our surname is also a mouthful! I don't want to make baby's life any harder than it needs to be!

I like all your girl names except Raven and Una/Oonagh.

I don’t like any of the boy names, however I am also pregnant and finding it almost impossible to think of any boy names at all that I like.

lampback · 26/10/2021 18:48

What is it about boys names. Really struggling here too

How about Vincent?

lampback · 27/10/2021 07:32

I adore Vincent but alas...can't use it

I like Oscar for a boy, but not the others.
And I only like Violet out of your list for a girl.

Lalliella · 28/10/2021 00:22

Love Violet, Scarlett, Lily and Amber. Not overly keen on the others. Really dislike Raven, think of it as a scary evil bird, plus would also think “Raven Mad”

Don’t particularly like any of your boy names - Edison and Emerson are surnames (isn’t Edison also a Lighthouse?!) - Oscar is probably the least worst.

ChocolateDeficitDisorder · 28/10/2021 00:30

Rowan, Laura or Alexia for a girl, Magnus, Owen or Keir for a boy.

I'm too old for more babies now, but these would be my picks.

Derbee · 28/10/2021 04:06

I like all your names, apart from Raven which is awful. Sorry

lampback · 28/10/2021 11:35

Raven is really unpopular on this thread! And my boys names seem to be going that way too. My dh loves Raven more than I do but I don't hate it and think we need to meet baby before deciding. If it's a girl and she has very dark eyes and hair it might suit her. The goth thing doesn't bother me too much.

We did consider Rowan but vetoed it in the end

Viviennemary · 28/10/2021 11:38

Violet, Amber and Lily are my favourite girls in that order. Not keen on the boys names. Emerson is dreadful.

daisypond · 28/10/2021 11:39

I don’t think it’s fair to name a child because of how she looks as a baby. If you like Raven, call her that. How she looks should have nothing to do with it. Do people name their children Bianca purely because their baby is white?

JudgementalCactus · 28/10/2021 11:56

Love Violet and Jasmine
Haaate Raven yuck

Love Oscar
Hate Edison

IntermittentParps · 28/10/2021 12:17

Why do people speak so rudely on names threads?
Awful, please God no, yuck...
Asking more in the spirit of curiosity than criticising. This is often the tone of names threads on here and I do find it interesting.

That’s what people post on here for — it’s a convenient way of getting a range of completely unvarnished opinions without the forced politeness or attempts at tact friends and family may feel obliged to display when you say you’re contemplating calling your unborn Antarctica or Fybogellus. (And yes, I know that’s a constipation remedy. Grin
raintropics · 28/10/2021 12:34

For girls names I love Raven, Scarlett & Jasmine. Lily is nice but very popular, Violet is too similar to Violent and just not a fan of Una.

For boys I like Emerson and Oscar. Edison is okay, just not my taste.Smile

DinaofCloud9 · 28/10/2021 12:38

I like Violet and Amber.
Lily and Jasmine are very very popular names of teenagers round here.
I like Oscar but not your other boys names.

My name means "dark haired beauty" in another language and I absolutely love that I was named this because of how I looked. Luckily for me, my hair stayed dark and I stayed beautiful 😉

I think Raven would be a nice middle name.

Not sure these are your style but I love the boys' names:

Edward
Peter
Otis

IntermittentParps · 28/10/2021 12:42

And yes, I know that’s a constipation remedy.
I did NOT know that. Live and learn Grin

I do get what you mean about unvarnished opinions. I just think you must need quite a thick skin to take some of them, even though they're anonymous and faceless.

lampback · 28/10/2021 13:21

I quite like Otis but dp doesn't.

Yes to unfiltered opinions from faceless people. I refuse to tell friends and family our possible names because I can't stand when they put their oar in. Strangers on the Internet, however...a different story! Also more likely to make me see the potential names in a way I hadn't thought of before

Boys names

Ellis
Hugh or Hugo
Jasper
Fraser

lampback · 28/10/2021 13:47

I like Ellis, will suggest to dp

I like Hugh but can't use it...

Sorry OP, but that logic sounds like you should only call her Violet if she comes out purple, or Amber only if she’s ginger.
lampback · 28/10/2021 15:41
