Is Lyons your family name

I can't work out why people use surnames as firstnames
Name kids river, mountain, dune etc...
Name kids like animals fox etc...
Or pieces of fruit like apple

Why can't children be given a proper name????

StrongerOrWeaker · 13/10/2021 02:08

Are you saying you will name your child River regardless of the sex? Or that you already have a child called river and are looking for a name that goes with it?

I'd also like to know this. The OP is unclear in its current form.

If it's a sibling, what about Phoenix (works for either)? Willow for a girl, or Rainbow? Or Wren? For a boy, maybe Ford? Or Robin? Or Reid?

If it's a middle name for River you're after, I'd go for something a bit different, like Jack, Lee, Anne or Grace.

I thought the title of the thread was pretty clear.

River Lyons sounds like a nature documentary!

River Lyons sounds like a nature documentary!

Do you reckon it's pronounced lions? I thought lee-onz.

Tabbypawpaw · 13/10/2021 02:59

Do you know the river Lyon is an actual river? It runs down Glen Lyon in Scotland! Just thought I’d say :)

How'd you pronounce it?

I figured OP was having us on, but I quite like a challenge!

I'm Aussie so probably got it wrong, saying it like Lyon the French town would definitely work better.
Hoesbeforebroes · 13/10/2021 03:02

How about Rory [grin[

junebirthdaygirl · 13/10/2021 03:13

It is pronounced lions!! Very common surname in lreland
Think you should wait until you know whether it's a boy or girl then you can add on a pretty regular name so the child has a choice later on. River is fine for a child but may not be a name a person wants to grow up with. Can you imagine a high court judge called River ???

There you go, @Hoesbeforebroes! Well done Smile

I used to work in a school and the teaching staff (I was admin) always had a good tittle about the ridiculous names parents came up with and almost had sweepstakes on names of any subsequent siblings that came after them

Op just think about this

PaulaTrilloe · 13/10/2021 03:48

What about Sea?

Toddlerteaplease · 13/10/2021 03:49

Please don't do this to your child!

Kanaloa · 13/10/2021 04:12

I don’t mind the name River but River & Lions reminds me of a business or a pub or something.

If you do use it I would go traditional for the middle name so something like Alexander, Thomas, Henry, William, Isabelle, Amelia, Olivia, Jane. Something that gives the child options, because I wouldn’t want a nature name if my surname was Lyons.

HateJudgmentalPeople · 13/10/2021 04:14

Sorry but I think you should be worrying about the first 2 names before you choose a middle name, I don’t mean any offence or disrespect but River Lyons is a mental name, and they will get bullied, River isn’t a chavvy name by any means but it’s a little out there...please tell me it’s just pregnancy brain? Wink

Flowers sending virtual flowers so you know I am not being nasty in my response.

GemmaRuby · 13/10/2021 04:17

Oh is Lyons your surname? Or is it a two part first name?

What about Cloud as a middle name?

HateJudgmentalPeople · 13/10/2021 04:19

I actually thought at first that River Lyons was the name of a pub! Grin

ApolloandDaphne · 13/10/2021 05:53

I hope the OP is on a wind up. River Lyons is a daft name for a person.

Seaweasel · 13/10/2021 06:08

MilkywayMonarch22 · 13/10/2021 06:30

These threads when someone suggests a name that isn't Amy or Michael or something else standard are exhausting. People inevitably get up in arms about giving a child an unusual but lovely name.

OP are you wanting unisex middle names?

alpinerain · 13/10/2021 06:34

I love River for both a boy and a girl. Great choice!

If you want a gender neutral middle name:
Arden
Eden
Harper
Lane
Morgan
Quinn

For girls:
Ivy
Juliet
Belle
Scarlet
Jade
Jasmine

For boys:
James
Sebastian
Emmanuel
Caleb
Mason
Jacob

Tailendofsummer · 13/10/2021 06:40

I've known a few Rivers, all were boys. It's a boys name surely.
If the surname is pronounced like the animal, it's actually quite hard to say - River Lions, doesn't roll off the tongue. River Lyon like the city sounds much better. But you can't change the surname!
