Rose is pretty and Rex is ok, but if my last name began with S, I wouldn’t give my child a name beginning with R.

MrsMiddleMother · 12/10/2021 22:11

Hopefully her name won't ever be shortened to R. Swash.. Think Rosie is nicer , just seems like she named her after her best mate Hinch

Can someone please explain what difference it makes giving your child your surname aswell as partners if you’re not married?

I’ll never understand why women just give away the right for the babytheygrew and birthed

What rights are given away by not giving baby your surname? My DC have their dads name. It has genuinely never been an issue.

I can only speak for myself but I find it really sexist that a woman carries a baby and gives birth to it, only for the baby to take the dad’s surname so she doesn’t appear related to the baby on paper.

Ew

Crispynoodle · 12/10/2021 22:45

I think it's an absolutely lovely name, well done Stacey and Joe!

goldenrachita · 12/10/2021 22:50

She'll be called Rose, which is beautiful, classic and relatively uncommon as a first name.
The surname works well with the double s, but as it references both parents it's just her surname, not a stylistic choice to be debated anyway.
As a whole name Rose Opal Esme has no flow and sounds like they just threw in every name they liked without any particular interest in balancing out how it sounded. Some people don't care much about creating the perfectly crafted name- they like what they like. It's fine and they are happy.

FabacrombieAndBitch · 13/10/2021 10:29

R.Swash sounds terrible though

notacooldad · 13/10/2021 10:34

I always wonder how that works with post in people’s houses where they give their children the same initials… not everyone puts Mr or Miss on stuff anymore.
All four of us have the same initials in our house.
My post isnt so bad as it is addressed Mrs B C
But the others have learned to use their middle name when signing up to things!
So post for Mr BDC is for Dh
post for Mr BRC is for ds1 etc.

If the initial isnt used we can normally tell who it is for by the address it is sent from.

Piggy42 · 13/10/2021 10:35

I think it’s a pretty name. Agree with a pp though, I think she put the wrong accent on Esme when she typed it (I don’t know how to do accents on a phone!)

notacooldad · 13/10/2021 10:36

Ew
Did you forget to finish your post or is this just some random letters you posted for no particular reason.

Cakeandslippers · 13/10/2021 10:37

@Bagelsandbrie

The only thing that occurred to me is that both Rex and Rose are going to have the same initials as they get older. I always wonder how that works with post in people’s houses where they give their children the same initials… not everyone puts Mr or Miss on stuff anymore.

(Yes I have too much time on my hands wondering about this stuff….!)

My DH was really wary of too - our DD has the same initial as me but our DS doesn't. My theory is that by the time they are old enough to get proper post, proper post probably won't exist anymore, or if it does it'll be so rare you'll probably know what it is before you open it! They are both very little still. I think it definitely would've been annoying if they were older.
CouldWeStartAgainPlease · 13/10/2021 10:47

I’ll never understand why women just give away the right for the baby they grew and birthed to have any of their names! It’s even worse when baby boys have their dad’s name as their middle name as well

My son has his father's name as a middle name. I chose it! And my daughters each have a variation of my names as their middle names.

I thought at the time that we just liked them and liked the connection and the way they sounded. I realise now it's the patriarchy doing its evil work.

Coffeey · 13/10/2021 11:18

@lollipoprainbow

What a mouthful !!
Not really. The 3 first names are all fairly short and most people in the UK are used to a double barrelled last name being a thing now.
Coffeey · 13/10/2021 11:19

Part of me wishes they'd put another middle name in there so here initials were ROSE.

Flashinggreen · 13/10/2021 12:48

My first thought was the accent is wrong. It should be Esmé but they’ve spelt it Esmè, total pedant I know but….

Kitkat151 · 13/10/2021 12:50

I think Rose is lovely....that’s the name she will be known by

Just hold down the e key when you type è é ē ê ë
thewhatsit · 13/10/2021 19:28

It doesn’t matter that the middle names don’t flow. Rose is a nice, normal name. I like it.
Rose Solomon-Swash.

I’ve seen a few PP saying that her name is just Rose Swash.. but it’s a double barrelled surname isn’t it? Is it just coincidence that it’s the mother’s surname that people are dropping from the 2??
