Biblical classic or dated and dull?

I think it's beautiful and classic but when I told people I wanted to call my DD Lydia I was told it was dated.

DramaAlpaca · 03/10/2021 12:36

Classic and beautiful.

starrynight21 · 03/10/2021 12:38

Lydia, oh Lydia, oh have you met Lydia ?
Lydia the tattooed lady !

And old song.

HelenaJustina · 03/10/2021 12:39

Love it

PainterInPeril · 03/10/2021 12:47

Lydia is classic, beautiful and definitely not dated in my opinion. If I'd had children, this would have been on my (not so) shortlist for a girl!

emmathedilemma · 03/10/2021 12:57

Lovely and classic

AnnaSW1 · 03/10/2021 12:58

I like it. It's been on my list before but didn't make the short list!

Zarene · 03/10/2021 13:00

Really like it!

ofwarren · 03/10/2021 13:00

Lovely name OP

PricklesTheHedgehog · 03/10/2021 13:06

Beautiful

Eaumyword · 03/10/2021 13:07

Ooh I suggested Lydia on another thread!
I know a stunningly beautiful (and jolly nice!) mid 20's Lydia so the positive association is strong.
I love it.

Flunked · 03/10/2021 13:22

I love it

Biscuitsneeded · 03/10/2021 13:26

Beautiful name.

Me too - I have a beautiful and nice early 20s Lydia. I have never regretted the choice of name. But she is fed up with Diddles as her nickname and I have been told to stop using it!
KirstenBlest · 03/10/2021 13:52

Lovely but will get called Lyds

SirChenjins · 03/10/2021 13:53

Dated and dull for me - plus the (predictable) ‘teapot’

nc890 · 03/10/2021 14:30

Very nice name indeed.

Not dated anymore.

Balonzette · 03/10/2021 14:31

Wow! Such great responses, thanks everyone!

What's the teapot thing about? I don't think I get it

We have a 3 year old Lydia 😊 it's not that common which we really like!

SirChenjins · 03/10/2021 14:40

Lydia (lid of a) teapot - it’s been around for years, no idea where it originated from though.
I just googled it to see if I could find out and an earlier MN thread appeared with Lydia Chlamydia - which hadn’t occurred to me.

SnottyLottie · 03/10/2021 14:42

I used to love the name Lydia until DH said it sounds like Chlamydia 😡

I always think 'toilet'.

But actually it's a lovely name.

LouLion · 03/10/2021 15:00

Lovely - very Jane Austen

IsThePopeCatholic · 03/10/2021 15:37

Beautiful name.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 03/10/2021 15:40

I love it.

I also know a lovely and delightful Lydia in her 20's

Great name!!
