Siblings- Isla and Isabelle?

Another baby name one from me! Resounding majority of ppl like Sophia for isabelles new sister! However I can't get away from loving the name Isla!
Would it be awful to name siblings Isla and isabelle? For reference isabelle is known mostly as Izzy day to day!

no

Datsandcogs · 18/09/2021 19:27

They look very similar but they sound different. I like both. How about using an alternative spelling?

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 18/09/2021 19:32

Too similar.

TheMadGardener · 18/09/2021 19:36

My friend gave all her three daughters first names beginning with E. Which was fine until they got old enough to start receiving official letters which all said "Miss E. xxxx" They complained continually about opening each other's letters. Once they moved out of home it was OK.

Possibly sisters having the same initial would be less of a problem these days now that more stuff is done online and less by post!

RockPaperScissorLizardSpock · 18/09/2021 19:41

@Trinacham

There is a famous YouTube clogging family that have an Isabelle and an Isla. I've never thought it was odd.
I too think the names sound fine.

On a side note, I’ve read about that family. Let’s just say, I won’t be allowing my children to watch these ‘influencers’.

HungryHippo11 · 18/09/2021 19:57

Its fine, although they start with the same letter its not the same sound.

Kuachui · 18/09/2021 19:58

The ingham family have Isla and isabelle ( family vloggers)

I never thought it was wierd

Corcra · 18/09/2021 20:03

I really like Isla.
Also Ayda is beautiful with Isabelle.

TatianaBis · 19/09/2021 00:39

Too similar,

DustyDood · 19/09/2021 01:16

How are pronouncing it?

  • Iz-la?
  • Eye-la?
  • Ice-luh?
  • Another way? (Question not pronunciation suggestion)
Trinacham · 19/09/2021 18:41

@RockPaperScissorLizardSpock I don't blame you! I watch them now and again, just to 'hate watch'. If I had children.. I wouldn't like them to watch.

cormorantes · 19/09/2021 18:45

It's like you have just picked out a couple of bits from isabelle and poor isla gets only half the letters

bloominglovelyorange · 19/09/2021 18:58

I think the two names work really well together

Isla and Izzy don't sound very similar to me, not sure what the problem is?

bloominglovelyorange · 19/09/2021 18:59

How about Delilah nickname Lilah

I'd still stick with Isla though. Lovely combination

HelstonaireMonty · 19/09/2021 19:08

My friend's daughters are called this! The only real issue I have with it is they have the same initials so labelling school stuff if they are similar in size can be tricky.

I always think it is nice if children have an initial that is theirs alone.

Pretendingtosmile · 19/09/2021 19:30

If you love it, use it x

tickledtiger · 19/09/2021 20:56

For me they’re too similar. Obviously lots of posters think otherwise so if you wanted to go with it I don’t think people would think it’s odd. Both great names though.

LowbrowVictoriana · 20/09/2021 08:36

I wouldn't, personally... but then I've known siblings Chloe, Cory and Coby.

And Lizzy and Ellie... Lizzy short for Elizabeth.

VictoriaBun · 20/09/2021 08:37

The Isla I know has a sister called Skye

SD1978 · 20/09/2021 08:39

I wouldn't say too similar- yes they start the same but seem easy enough to seperate- they sound different but maybe that's being Scottish.

SD1978 · 20/09/2021 08:40

And why would those suggesting to spell it differently, do so? If it's said the same, they will be spoken to more than they are ever written together........whether it's spelt traditionally (Scottish) or differently if it's said the same, it's the same name. Unique spellings are unecessary

MajorCarolDanvers · 20/09/2021 08:43

Lovely names but too similar.

Go with Sophie which is beautiful

35andThriving · 20/09/2021 08:50

I think they're too similar. I like the suggestion of using Delilah though.

thriftyhen · 20/09/2021 08:59

Too similar. I know an Izzy whose actual name is Isla, so although you may not choose to change it, then you need to be aware that friends might.

Flamingosnbears · 20/09/2021 09:17

Two completely different names imo they sound good together if your heart is in it go with it
