NC for this

Hi all
I'm due my second baby in 5 weeks and one of the only names we can agree on rhymes with my first name! Is it a silly thing to worry about?
The name is Seth and my name is Beth.

That's fine. People might comment on it but who cares.

GemmaRuby · 15/09/2021 13:35

It’s fine, my name rhymes with my mum’s and is different by one letter. It’s never been an issue.
Love Seth, great name.

Dancingonmoonlight · 15/09/2021 13:37

I would find it odd tbh.

Marcipex · 15/09/2021 13:39

I don’t think it’s odd at all.

welshdaffs · 15/09/2021 15:12

Thank you! I'll take the majority of 'not odd' Grin

I’d notice it and I think you’ll get a lot of comments. It’s not awful though.

youvegottenminuteslynn · 15/09/2021 15:14

My two favourite girls names are my name with the first letter changed!

Popskipiekin · 15/09/2021 15:21

People will comment but there are funnier things parents do. Eg I know of two families where they have called a child the same first name as the mum’s maiden name (eg Ms James now has a son called James) and the mum still went by her maiden name. Now that’s just bizarre in my view, but they did it - because they liked the name.
Seth and Beth is sweet - and you won’t often be named as a pair.

ShuddaBeenMe · 15/09/2021 15:23

I know a Stacey with a Casey. It's a bit odd

RiaOverTheRainbow · 15/09/2021 15:30

Have you tried having your dp shout both from the other side of the house? If you can tell them apart easily I'd say go for it, if not it could end up being a pain.

Dancingonmoonlight · 15/09/2021 18:50

Imagine introducing yourself and your son. ‘Hi I’m Beth and this is Seth’ It sounds like a double act? You might both like this though?

FuckingFlumps · 15/09/2021 18:53

I agree I'd find it really odd.

If you're introducing yourself to anyone new the conversation would be hi I'm Seth's mum Beth, it's a bit of a tongue twister and I think you'd very quickly get fed up of people mentioning it.

3womeninaboat · 15/09/2021 18:53

Odd. Sorry.

IglesiasPiggle · 15/09/2021 18:55

I'd find it odd.

DramaAlpaca · 15/09/2021 19:59

I'd think it was a bit odd, sorry.

LublinToDublin · 15/09/2021 20:04

I would register it and think it was a little odd but not ridiculous or anything. However, in a family home the similarity might cause confusion possibly.

PlainJane1000 · 15/09/2021 20:25

I don't think it's worth not choosing a name you love over. So what if some people think it's a bit odd, in the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter. I know someone whose daughters name is 1 letter different from the mothers and while you obviously register it in your mind, what difference does it make to the world? None. Name your child something you love!

mathanxiety · 15/09/2021 21:21

It's perfectly fine. I wouldn't think twice about it.

FASDE1517 · 15/09/2021 21:42

Sorry, I find it too odd.

GemmaRuby · 15/09/2021 21:50

Genuinely no-one has ever commented on the fact that mine and my mother’s name is one letter different and rhymes.

PricklesTheHedgehog · 15/09/2021 21:59

Beth and Seth
Holly and Molly
Dawn and Sean
Christina and Georgina

No problem with any of them. It's fine.

Elisemum · 16/09/2021 18:01

It’s a little odd I think, only when you introduce yourself. For example on the playground/at the doctors you would often say “oh hello this is Seth and I’m Beth” - sounds a bit silly/funny. But if you love the name then just use it, it’s not a huge deal.

Thecaravan · 16/09/2021 18:19

If we had a boy he was going to be Harry and DH is Gary. I asked on here and everyone was like noooo but tbh we didn't have another name we liked so still would have done it. Ended up being a girl.

welshdaffs · 16/09/2021 19:19

Thank you for all opinions. I think it's still fairly split which hasn't helped Grin will keep thinking and hope a name magically comes to us...

It’s not awful but I think people will comment. My friend Jen has just called her baby Ben and it made me giggle a bit but it’s not a problem.
