What do you guys think of the name Prairie for a boy, my husband wanted to honor his Dad, Perry, if it’s a boy, but I feel like it’s a little dated, I think Prairie sounds kind of cute & more modern….Do you guys prefer the name Perry or Prairie?

I know a Prairie! She doesn’t have the hippy dippy vibes you’d expect and seems like she should have been named Anne. But it’s a sweet name!

Kuachui · 13/09/2021 20:12

Oh god none

Kanaloa · 13/09/2021 20:13

Oh hang on I thought Prairie is a girl? Like naming the granddaughter after her grandpa?

Whitewolf2 · 13/09/2021 20:15

I like Perri, there is a male Perri from Diverity (the dance group) though also female Perrie from Little Mix…
Prairie if it’s actually a name (not convinced it is) would definitely be a girls name.

lil812 · 13/09/2021 20:16

@Kanaloa I thought Prairie sounded kind of gender neutral, I honestly think it’s sounds very similar to Perry, just a little more exciting. Tbh I don’t like the name Perry, I just thought Prairie would be a cute alternative

@Thefaceofboe

Prairie is nothing like Perry so I wouldn’t see that as honouring his Dad at all. I would also presume Prairie was a girl.
Agree, wouldn't be honouring him at all - it's a completely different nonname! Was Perry short for anything?

Like Prarie-Dawn.

Little house on the -?

  • dog?

No, sorry.

peaceinourtime · 13/09/2021 21:58

Its not really a name

whatausername · 13/09/2021 22:11

"Hey FIL, we wanted to "honour" you by naming our son after you but your name is so ugly that we came up with something entirely different -and fcking ridiculous- ."

headintheproverbial · 13/09/2021 22:19

Along a similar vein, Savannah is a lovely name and doesn't have the 'dog' connotation.

Babyfg · 13/09/2021 22:28

If you're changing Perry but keeping it similar why not terry or kerrie or Jerry or percy.

...or Perry as a middle name?

Grin

Tundra, Desert, Temperate Woodland? I suppose Savannah works as a name as physical geography term.

thriftyhen · 13/09/2021 22:44

Dog?

Elisemum · 13/09/2021 23:01

Prairie sounds like praline, no OP sorry but no. Perry - slightly better. What is the deal with naming children after someone “to honour them”? Can people not honour their child by giving them their own name which they deserve? They are a separate person after all… I never understood it, it makes no sense to me

Littlepaws18 · 13/09/2021 23:02

As in little house on the prairie? 😂 though I'm old, I don't reckon today's youth will remember that tv show!

Viviennemary · 13/09/2021 23:04

Its dire. Not even a name. At least Perry is a name. Thats about all that can be said for it though.

Changemaname1 · 13/09/2021 23:10

God please don’t Shock

Go with Perry for a middle name and something else entirely for the first name

Sorry op!!

teezletangler · 13/09/2021 23:11

I actually think it's really pretty but it sounds like a girl's name and would be more suited to a North American child IMO, where the term is used. Seems a bit random otherwise.

Vanuatu · 13/09/2021 23:55

What about Bigwoods Grin

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 14/09/2021 01:08

I would have thought it was a girls name. Its a very pretty name but its far too feminine for a boy, IMO

Snugglybuggly · 14/09/2021 01:29

Might get called Little house on the....

SaltySheepdog · 14/09/2021 01:38

Peirs and pierce is better.

SaltySheepdog · 14/09/2021 01:40

Perrin

Echobelly · 14/09/2021 01:46

It doesn't really shorten, does it? You'd end up saying 'Prair' which would be odd.
