Thoughts on the name Prairie

What do you guys think of the name Prairie for a boy, my husband wanted to honor his Dad, Perry, if it’s a boy, but I feel like it’s a little dated, I think Prairie sounds kind of cute & more modern….Do you guys prefer the name Perry or Prairie?

Sorry but I really don’t see the link between Perry and Prairie other than they both begin with the letter P?…Anyway I’d use Perry as a middle name if you want to honour Grandad and write Prairie off to crazy pregnancy hormones.

I remember reading a book which had a character called Prairie Rose. She was a saloon girl/prostitute type so I’m probably not the person to ask!

Id assume a Prairie was a girl. It fits into the current nature trend especially as people are increasingly looking away from the very traditional Rose, Poppy, Daisy to more unusual choices such as River, Fox, Wren, Rowan etc. and many more increasingly unusual names coming up all the time. Personally I'm not a fan of Prairie and I don't think it honours a Perry. I prefer just Perry or Peregrine if you are open to suggestions.

Have you watched The OA on Netflix?? The main character is Prairie.

There was a Netflix show with a (female) character called Prairie. It's not really a name though.

Prairie is nothing like Perry so I wouldn’t see that as honouring his Dad at all. I would also presume Prairie was a girl.

I think of Little House on the Prairie or prairie dogs (a type of rodent).

I wouldn't have been thrilled if my parents had called me Prairie, tbh. Would probably have changed my name as soon as I could.

Percy is sort of closer than prairie to Perry. But why not just give the baby a name in his own right and leave family names for middle ones x
