Polly?

Thoughts on the name Polly? I was rather shocked to see it has never been that high on the UK charts. Highest position was 184! I like that it is not overly ‘out there’ but still surprisingly not that popular!

Thoughts? :)

I like it. Another name I really love is Patsy. I think that has the same kind of vibe.

SingingSands · 11/09/2021 19:15

Fab name.

Chickydoo · 11/09/2021 19:19

Gorgeous!!!!!!

IVflytrap · 11/09/2021 20:10

@HungryHippo11 No, almost certainly not these days, but there may well have been more Pollys-who-were-registered-Mary in the earlier 20th century. We first started publishing baby name statistics in 1904. Smile

Absolutely love it
Love that it's familiar but never been too popular, a great choice

ellenpartridge · 11/09/2021 20:28

I like it

allycat4 · 11/09/2021 20:31

I love it but - showing my age - think of it as a diminutive of Mary (even more specifically Mary Ann)

MeredithGreyishblue · 11/09/2021 20:32

DS 2 would have been Polly!

Unsure1983 · 11/09/2021 20:37

I would hate to be called Polly and therefore i would have to say no. It is very sweet for a child but I would hate to have the name as an adult.

PumpkinsGalore · 11/09/2021 22:12

I like it. Although of course, if she's a small child she'll be called Polly Pocket! 🤦🏼‍♀️💖

bluetang7 · 11/09/2021 22:14

One of my favourite books as a child was 'Polly and the wolf' about a very brave and clever girl who kept outsmarting the wolf. Always thought of it as a powerful, pretty name after that Smile

ZittiEBuoni · 11/09/2021 22:22

My nearly-adult Polly loves her name and is definitely not wet or meek.

She does occasionally get tired of being asked to put the kettle on though Grin.

Elisemum · 11/09/2021 23:22

I really like it, it’s nice.

ThePunnyMonster · 12/09/2021 00:34

Makes me think of the nirvana song that’s even more depressing than their other depressing songs

AnyaMoondial · 12/09/2021 09:37

Love it.

I love it.

BlossomOnTrees · 12/09/2021 12:46

It's grown on me of late. Am starting to like it.

RestingStitchFace · 12/09/2021 12:47

Honestly, I hate it...to me it sounds prissy.

KimDeals · 12/09/2021 12:50

Love. Polly and molly have been slow burning in popularity the last 10 years.

Molly was/is a derivative of Mary but seems to be a name in its own right now.

Polly - made untouchably cool by PJ Harvey & gang 😎

Santabunny · 12/09/2021 17:22

I like it

EdgeOfACoin · 12/09/2021 19:23

Dislike. I think it sounds lightweight and cutesy.

xprincessxjanetx · 12/09/2021 21:27

I'm not keen but it isn't a bad name

Birchwoods · 12/09/2021 21:33

I have a six year old Polly and have always considered it to be a strong, simple, unfussy name, not cutesy at all. She could be a Tom boy or a girly girl and the name would still fit. Her name really suits her and she never gets parrot/kettle/Polly pocket comments.
I know of a couple of adult Polly's too and always think what a lovely name it is at any age. I love it!

Kokeshi123 · 13/09/2021 03:13

Don't like it. Polycotton, polyfiller etc. And it's a silly sounding word.
