Baby boy due this month.
Set on the name Bernie ❤️

It’s classic, not too common but not a really “out there” name. What do you think?

Love it!

PurBal · 07/09/2021 06:31

Love it. I’m personally a fan of “full” names so Bernard nn Bernie but I completely understand the argument not to name a child something they’ll never be called.

Kanaloa · 07/09/2021 06:36

It’s not for me but it isn’t offensive in any way. Reminds me of Bert n Ernie, although it’s neither of those names.

Twizbe · 07/09/2021 06:52

"They'll never make any mo ey, Bernie I said, they'll never make any money."

Makes me think of Life of Brian every time.

I have an Uncle Bernie so it does feel quite retro to me. I'd also use Bernard as the full name. Bernie is a nickname

GoodnightGrandma · 07/09/2021 06:55

Not really a fan. I see beanie, and think of Bert and Ernie.

Noshowwithoutpunch · 07/09/2021 06:56

No, I don't like it.
Bit if an old man nickname in a jokey sort of way.

MarshmallowsOnToast · 07/09/2021 06:58

Makes me think of Bernie Eccleston.

If you like it though, go for it.

Ikeameatballs · 07/09/2021 07:09

It makes me think of Berni Inns. Also when my dc were little we’d sometimes refer to something as “burnt” or “burny hot”, though who knows what other kind of hot there is.

So, I’m not that keen on it but it’s not awful.

daisypond · 07/09/2021 07:17

I’m not keen. It’s not really a classic. Bernard is OK, shortened to Bernie. Definitely not Bernie on its own.

EileenGC · 07/09/2021 07:38

Bernie Ecclestone for me too… and not in a good way.

But if you like the name, use it. It’s not a horrible, silly name and people should hopefully not judge your child because of their name, I never would.

shmashing · 07/09/2021 07:40

Bernard is a wonderful name.

FelicityPike · 07/09/2021 07:40

Aww you don’t get many baby Bernies.
It’s lovely!

OhWhatsTheDifference · 07/09/2021 07:48

Bernie and Bernard are both dreadful. Very dreary.

LizzieAnt · 07/09/2021 07:57

Where I am (Ireland) Bernie is an out-of-date girls' name, short for Bernadette. I do know one Bernard but he always uses his full name. So I'd assume baby Bernie was a girl, but that's probably location dependent.

Teatreee · 07/09/2021 08:20

All very fair comments! Ifs nice to hear other opinions.

It’s been really hard to get a name that we don’t know of anyone else that already has or has used (lots of friends having/had baby boys). I know nobody can own a name but when you know of a kid or baby or person who already has the name and you’re in contact with them; it’s just odd to me. It’s been hard agreeing on a name we both equally really like, I’m sure most parents had the same struggle. Bernard doesn’t hit the spot and I don’t think it really goes with our eldest’s name, Teddy. So Bernie is it for now.

Teddy and Bernie 🤍

It's not my definition of classic but better than some 'old man' names. I would use Bernard as a full name, shortened to Bernie.

HoldingTheDoor · 07/09/2021 09:06

It's awful. It's ugly and sounds like a comedic name.

Needaholidayx2 · 07/09/2021 09:08

Lovely to be different, go for it! I like it with Teddy and I don't think it would raise any eyebrows x

🤣🤣 I’m sorry to have triggered you so much

You didn't. You asked for opinions and I gave mine which is that it's a horrible name and I don't think it goes with Teddy either. Why ask for opinions if you're going to get uptight when you receive them?

irresistibleoverwhelm · 07/09/2021 09:36

Agh I just wrote a whole message and the page reloaded and lost it! How annoying.

I have an Uncle Bernie too 😂 so to my mind it’s the same bracket of 1950s names like Keith, Norman, Eric, Colin, Ray etc. It doesn’t really sound at all in the same style as Teddy (which I love).

What about Barney? It just changes the sound and spelling very slightly, but looks much more classic and stylish (and goes better with Teddy). Can be short for Barnaby or Barnabas too if you like; or you can use it on its own.

Teddy and Barney sounds lovely.

irresistibleoverwhelm · 07/09/2021 09:38

I’d be thinking constantly of that Bernie Sanders meme too if I met a toddler called Bernie 😂

WhoppingBigBackside · 07/09/2021 09:41

Use Bernard as the full name. I know a youngish Bernard and the name seems nice compared to the Ryan type names of his contemporaries.

Teatreee · 07/09/2021 09:46

I wouldn’t class my reply or feeling as uptight at all, it just made me laugh 😊 I’m interested in inputs! Although you’re definitely triggered as you’re just becoming hostile and rude now which isn’t the aim of the game. So I won’t engage with you any further, have a good day ❤️🥰
