Set on the name Bernie ❤️

It’s classic, not too common but not a really “out there” name. What do you think?

It's an awful name for a grown man, which your child will spend the vast majority of his life being.

Is it really though? I mean, there’s a fuck ton of Gary’s knocking about who are being taken seriously and still living their best life

I'm not usually so forthright but Bernie's terrible, sorry! Teddy is not my personal style either but at least it's very cute. Bernie makes me picture either a big, hairy, 50 plus bloke ("Bernie the Bear") or an Irish woman, again probably middle aged (Bernadette).

I'd expect the brother of a Teddy (if it's a given name rather than Edward/Theodore) to be named something equally sweetly vintage - like Albie, Bertie (not my fave but the T makes a difference over Bernie!), Bobby, Billy, Monty type names - "cute" rather than "That's my Uncle's name".

Yeah but there are literally no baby Gary's either. Google it - Gary is becoming extinct. And Gary is a much nicer name than Bernard/Bernie.

I don’t love or hate it, but I don’t like diminutives as full given names.

Having been to a Catholic school, Bernie is a girl’s name to me, short for Bernadette.

@Cleverpolly3 I literally stated that I wanted to hear opinions, on our chosen name ❤️ You decided to incorrectly read it as “oooo unsure, can you help sway me to yes/no”. It’s been good to hear everyone’s thoughts and their reasoning, we all think a certain way. It didn’t mean I had to agree with it, although I have listened to them. It’s just a healthy discussion 🙌🏻 I doubt there’s a name out there that 100% of people like?? If there is, I’m all ears

You will never have everyone loving or even liking the name… if you love it go for it. Personally not for me, while it may be cute for a baby can you imagine Bernie working as CEO for example? Or in any other professional environment? I can’t really but it could be just me. All it matters is that you like it and if you are still happy to use it despite of all these comments then use it

I know 3 Garys the youngest being 22, so it’s definitely not disappeared. Bernie’s a family name for us so we’re definitely big fans. Go for it!

I like it. But then I have a little Bernadette. She hates it when people call her Bernie though

@Elisemum you are right, you do have to consider every age bracket with names. If I’m completely honest, I couldn’t even imagine a Teddy as an adult or a baby and at one point it was vetoed, however we kept coming back to it as it was one of the few we could agree on. And now he’s here, bobbing about, he really does suit it and I couldn’t even imagine him being anything but that (although I know that happens with everyone) and it’s now becoming a bit more popular and recognised. There was also the love island Teddy who is an adult, which he suited

@Teatreee, exactly. Look if you like it and suits your family then use it. I do have a Teddy quite high in my company, he is 50 and a big/tall lovely guy- and I think the name really suits him. It’s the only Teddy I know and I think the name is quite nice as long as the name holder is a nice person :) I can’t imagine a rude/unfriendly guy being called Teddy :)

What I meant to add - same with Bernie- I see a Bernie as a very friendly lovely chap.

The names aren't my style, but I have to say that Bernie and Teddy do sound like a very warm, friendly pair of fellas!

I’m really not keen on Bernie, but love Barney ...

I knew a female Bernie, she was really lovely. Down to earth and kind so the name has good vibes for me! Haven’t come across a boy named Bernie so likely he’ll be the only one in his nursery and school class!
