I recently heard of a baby girl called Halliday, nickname Hallie. I love it. What do you think?
Honest thoughts only please!

Sorry it's awful. If you like Hallie then it's fine to just use that, no need to give the child a ridiculous first name when you're going to use a nickname.

freelions · 03/09/2021 20:10

My honest opinion is that it's a bit naff

Just use Halle or Hallie as a stand alone name

User65412 · 03/09/2021 20:11

I'd think there name is Holiday which is a female name. Never heard of Halliday!

IggyAce · 03/09/2021 20:11

I know a Hallie, not my taste but not awful, I work in a school so I’m used to hearing lots of different names.

Touloser · 03/09/2021 20:11

Makes me think Halliday Reeves law firm.
Not keen.

overnightangel · 03/09/2021 20:13

If y ok want to call her Hallie just call her that, why bother with the horrible name as a stepping stone ?

Emelene · 03/09/2021 20:16

I don’t think it’s a recognised name so would cause lots of problems with spelling it out etc. Hallie is okay but might be misheard as Holly…

Zippy1510 · 03/09/2021 20:17

I think it sounds like you're saying holiday in an American accent

Vallmo47 · 03/09/2021 20:18

I’m sorry but no. Flowers

NotAnotherBloodyNameChange · 03/09/2021 20:19

Halliday sounds like a surname.
I agree with pp just use Hallie

Marlena1 · 03/09/2021 20:21

I really like it, but I would just use the short version. I also love Haliey but dont think MN is a fan

AlrightThereSkippy · 03/09/2021 20:21

Halliday is a surname and people use those as first names all the time. I'm not mad on either Halliday or Hallie tbh (too much like halitosis Blush). But it's perfectly ok imo. I don't think it is out there to a degree where she would find it a major obstacle in life I don't think...unless someone pops up with a negative cultural reference I don't know about!

Marlena1 · 03/09/2021 20:21

Sorry Hailey

HoldingTheDoor · 03/09/2021 20:21

Hallie is fine. Halliday isn't and now I have Madonna's Holiday stuck in my head.

MrsCremuel · 03/09/2021 20:34

I know a Hally who is Halide - a Turkish name. I love it!

toastofthetown · 03/09/2021 20:36

I don't like it. It just sounds wrong to me. I'd just use Hallie. Hallie is the 58th most popular name, and there have been no Hallidays recorded.

LimeRedBanana · 03/09/2021 20:39

Honest thoughts only please!

As opposed to what other sort? Grin

I actually don’t mind it. I mean, I wouldn’t use it myself. But wouldn’t raise too many eyebrows to someone else using it.

annacondom · 03/09/2021 20:45

Not my thing at all. There are so many gorgeous girl's names out there, why do people choose random surnames? If it's your mum's maiden name or something then OK, but just a random surname? Might as well go for Pettigrew or Grint or Potter or Watson. I can't see that Halliday is any better, tbh. Thanks for letting me rant ;)

gofg · 03/09/2021 21:04

There is nothing wrong with Halliday - if you like it then use it. The UK is so conservative and old fashioned when it comes to names!!!

gofg · 03/09/2021 21:10

Whoops - forgot to say OP, I really like the name.

GeorgiaGirl52 · 03/09/2021 21:12

I would think the parents did not know how to spell it correctly. Just like all the parents of Chassitys.

NotAnotherBloodyNameChange · 03/09/2021 21:26

I thought you were making that up until I googled!
Baggingarea · 03/09/2021 21:33

I just think if you like it go for it. Who cares what other people think? There's an option for a pretty normal nickname if your child hates it. I actually really like the Turkish spelling Halide too!

HighNetGirth · 03/09/2021 21:41

I think Hallie is not nice at all but Halliday is great.

RedMarauder · 03/09/2021 21:47

For good reason.

Halliday will want to get a decent job one day.
