Valentina?

Our baby girl is 8 days old now and we are still undecided on her name! DH is Italian and we have a long Italian surname, DS1 has an Italian first name so ideally we wanted DD to have an Italian name too, but short Italian girls names seem to be in short supply!

We are 80% there with Valentina Rose but just not sure if Valentina is just too OTT for a first name in the UK? V/ Vallie/ Varley for a nickname.

Our other options are Rose Valentina or I like Vivienne Rose, or Viviana but DH isn’t sure.

Any feedback/ suggestions would be welcome!

I love Valentina. It’s not too out there either. It’s in top 300 and has had a recent spike in popularity. The reason that I wouldn’t use it is that I really dislike Val as a nickname but if that doesn’t bother you, it’s a really beautiful name.

Anoisagusaris · 02/09/2021 08:41

Beautiful name, please don’t use any of those nicknames.

GarnetsandRubies · 02/09/2021 08:42

I absolutely LOVE Valentina. Go for it!!

piglet81 · 02/09/2021 08:43

It’s a beautiful name. I work with a Valentina, who goes by Vale (val-eh) for short.

JennaPenna · 02/09/2021 08:45

Absolutely love this name!
It's on our list if we ever have a girl.
I wouldn't have a nn for it as it's too beautiful

SlouchingTiger · 02/09/2021 08:49

Are you sure she wouldn’t end up being called Val or Tina? Fine if you were born in 50s or early 60s…

idontlikealdi · 02/09/2021 08:50

I know a Valentina, she's 10 and is always Valentina, never been shortened. I think it's a lovely name.

Noshowwithoutpunch · 02/09/2021 08:52

Love Valentina.
I'd not be looking to shorten it.

DoTheNextRightThing · 02/09/2021 08:54

I like it! But I agree, Vallie isn't my fave. But Tina works as a nickname!

DotDotDotDotDot · 02/09/2021 08:55

Beautiful name choices. Valentina is lovely, could be Vee or Leni for nicknames. I really love Rose as a first name actually, I think it’s underused in the first spot. Rosa Vivienne would be nice too. Good luck.

CaffiSaliMali · 02/09/2021 09:30

I used to know a Valentina growing up, it's a lovely name. She was just Valentina, no-one shortened it to Val or Tina.

sashh · 02/09/2021 09:52

I love it.

Not only is it a lovely name but it is the name of the first woman to travel into space. And the only woman to do a solo trip to space and is still the youngest female astronaut / cosmonaut.

And did I tell you I love the name?

daisypond · 02/09/2021 10:08

I like it a lot. Not shortened to Vallie, though.

BrilliantBetty · 02/09/2021 10:11

Oo very nice, doesn't need to be shortened really. My DD's nickname is completely unrelated to her actually name.

MrsSkylerWhite · 02/09/2021 10:13

Beautiful Smile

annacondom · 02/09/2021 10:15

Gorgeous, especially given her Italian heritage.

DoodleBelle · 02/09/2021 10:19

Beautiful name - we are considering it as a middle name for our baby due around Valentine’s Day, some might think that’s a bit twee but I just think it’s a beautiful name. I don’t think it needs shortening but Vee or Vallie are sweet if you feel she needs a nickname.

DPotter · 02/09/2021 10:19

Knew at Valentina many years ago - lovely name. She was always called Tina

MrsRobbieHart · 02/09/2021 10:20

I know a Valentina in the UK. Her parents call her val and somehow it does actually suit her.

TheBugHouse · 02/09/2021 10:23

Just came on say just how beautiful and different. Just lovely

Ellarain · 02/09/2021 10:45

Love it, was on my shortlist for DD2 as she was due near Valentines Day.

shinynewapple21 · 02/09/2021 10:51

I think Valentina Rose is a lovely name.

Don't like any of the alternatives.

Quick99 · 02/09/2021 10:53

I know a Valentina she's called Valley by classmates 99% of the time both suit her I like it

minatrina · 02/09/2021 10:56

Valentina is a gorgeous name and I actually really like Val as a nickname too! Smile

daisypond · 02/09/2021 12:32

You could shorten to the Russian diminutive of Valya if you wanted an alternative - doesn’t reflect your Italian heritage, though.
