For a girl.. opinions?

I’ve come across a few girls Paisley over the past few years and my 14 year old has a friend called Paisley names after the town where her grandmother was born.

HoldingTheDoor · 01/09/2021 15:55

It's awful and not a town I'd care to be named after either.

TheDistortion · 01/09/2021 16:00

Before opening I had assumed it was a boy's name, I don't know why. Maybe because it makes me think of Paisley Park and Prince. Also the pattern.
It is not my cup of tea but I am quite old fashioned when it comes to names. I do like the sound it makes though. If there was a female character called Paisley in a book I would think of her as quirky and go-getting.

Pemba · 01/09/2021 16:04

A classic fabric pattern, a town in Scotland, a ranting N. Irish politician (Reverend Ian Paisley, think he might be dead now).

Not nice as a girl's name.

Thecurtainsofdestiny · 01/09/2021 16:07

Suggest visiting Paisley ( the place). Then decide.

SwedishEdith · 01/09/2021 16:09

No. Just think of Ian Paisley - Snr and Jnr. Neither are good associations.

peachgreen · 01/09/2021 16:14

Hmm, I like it BUT it just makes me think of Ian Paisley, which isn't a great association.

How about Hadley? Everly?

Mellowbee · 01/09/2021 16:14

I think it’s a lovely girls name. But in Liverpool there are quite a few paisleys after Bob Paisley

Fredoftheforest · 01/09/2021 16:14

It’s quite a rough town, not somewhere I’d want to be named after.

MadamBatty · 01/09/2021 16:15

Big Ian…Ulster will never surrender.

peaceinourtime · 01/09/2021 16:17

I dislike it as a name, it doesn't sound right. Then a few years ago I knew a Paisley who was impossible and unlikable which further made me view it in a bad light.

TooBigForMyBoots · 01/09/2021 16:19

My first thought was Big Ian too.😂 Then the rather depressing town in Scotland. Then the fabric.

Fivefourthreetwo · 01/09/2021 16:20

No

DoggyMumma · 01/09/2021 16:21

It's a no from me. I took a wrong turn and ended up in Paisley. Didn't go back.

audweb · 01/09/2021 16:21

I mean I’m from there so it’s a giant nope. It’s not the nicest town in the world. In Scotland it has quite the reputation. Maybe not so bad if you are no where near there.

TenThousandSpoons · 01/09/2021 16:24

Not keen sorry.
Paige is nicer.

ramarama · 01/09/2021 16:30

I've also heard the place is not that pleasant - def worth considering

This!

I'm in Liverpool and in all my years here have never heard of anyone called Paisley. It's a truly awful name to give a child.

mafted · 01/09/2021 16:39

I know a Paisley and a Paislie. Not my cup of tea.

HeronLanyon · 01/09/2021 16:39

To my ear it sounds -
A made up usage as a first name
Thin and hard (think Ian paisleys voice is influencing that)
Rough

Funny that because I like the cloth pattern a lot but as a name it doesn’t sound good.

Ignore or not. Congrats.

AbandonedCharacter · 01/09/2021 16:43

Only someone who had never been to Paisley would consider it as a name!

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 01/09/2021 16:44

Ulster Mumsnet says NO

PersonaNonGarter · 01/09/2021 16:45

Yous have nae way bin tae Paisley, hen.

Liverbird77 · 01/09/2021 16:46

Heard quite often in Liverpool because of Bob Paisley. I don't like it, to be honest.
