The main difference between Glasgow and Paisley though is that one is a City and one is a town. Paisley doesn't benefit from the attractions and resources, shopping, tourism etc that its Glasgow neighbour does.
There may be some affluent areas but chances are that people will jump in their cars and spend their money elsewhere.
Paisley people will travel to Glasgow for leisure, entertainment, shopping etc but it's very unlikely to happen in reverse sadly. Too close to Braehead and Glasgow for it to be a thriving stand alone.

I thought I read Parsley. Still no.

Oh I agree with all you have said. Braehead comes under the same Local Authority as Paisley and Im at the age where I remember how great Paisley was for shopping and the Braehead opening day, it was the demise of Paisley. I went from spending my money in internacional and Our Price to Jane Norman in Braehead. The council encouraged people to go to BHead, and that’s what they done.

The current party of the local authority will not hear you say a bad word against Paisley, it’s all positive thinking and Spiegeltents. Rather than get to the grass roots of the communities and stop the cycle of deprivation that they allowed to take hold!! Renfrewshire’s shame, two schools less than 2 miles apart, one is top 5 in Scotland the other in Scotlands bottom 5 and it’s been like that for decades. Yet RC have the cheek to say they’re closing the attainment gap!

But, I do know that one wrong turn in Glasgow and it’s a dodgy place Wink and Paisley has better parking 😂

The receptionist on tattoo fixers was called Paisley... obv most important social reference.
One of fav shows ever but a big no to the name

Aw I just want to defend my town!

I've lived in a few different countries considered MUCH cooler and more beautiful but I would never move away from Paisley again.

Not daft about it as a name but give our town break!

AbandonedCharacter · 02/09/2021 14:19

@Classica You're right. There are some absolutely beautiful buildings there.

@ItsDinah I love the idea of someone honeymooning in Paisley!

CallMeNutribullet · 02/09/2021 14:22

I also like Easterhouse for a boy

BrozTito · 02/09/2021 14:22

Excuse to post this, so it is.

TempsPerdu · 02/09/2021 14:24

I once taught a Paisley. Her parents were big Liverpool fans, and her sister was called Mersey… She was lovely but I always thought her name was dreadful. Not the best geographical namesake, plus it’s too close to parsley, and I don’t like names ending in -ley anyway.

Pretty pattern though!

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 02/09/2021 14:28

I quite like it.

Crankley · 02/09/2021 15:32

flowerbus · 02/09/2021 17:18

I don’t like it personally but I don’t think it’s awful

maddy68 · 02/09/2021 17:19

Love that name

coodawoodashooda · 02/09/2021 17:19

@HoldingTheDoor

It's awful and not a town I'd care to be named after either.
Hahaha!!!
cushioncovers · 02/09/2021 17:20

Nope to Paisley all I can think about is Ian paisley shouting about issues in NI. How about Pacey ?

Brilliant. Twins maybe? Easterhouse and Castlemilk?
tickledtiger · 08/09/2021 03:17

Nah. It’s ok but what about nicknames? It isn’t a particularly nice sounding name to me. Its ok though.

Elisemum · 10/09/2021 17:11

Never heard about the place so won’t comment, but to me it sounds like Parsley. I’m surprised no one said it yet :)
