I'm from NI and even with the connection to Ian Snr and Jr I still think its a nice name. Are you in England? I would use it.

Joystir59 · 01/09/2021 16:48

Naff low class name.

HeronLanyon · 01/09/2021 16:49

persona perfect ! 😂👍

Strokethefurrywall · 01/09/2021 16:50

I know a sweet little Paisley, but her parents are Canadian so know connotations with the place.

I think it’s cute as hell!

KidneyBeans · 01/09/2021 16:54

The only way you could make it worse is to spell it Paislie

Mellowbee · 01/09/2021 16:59

@Sisisimone I’ve met at least 3 in the past 5 years. There’s not one on every road but a fair few

Classica · 01/09/2021 17:07

@AbandonedCharacter

Only someone who had never been to Paisley would consider it as a name!
Poor old Paisley. Definitely down on its luck now but you can see how affluent it must have been in its day. Gorgeous architectural legacy from its Victorian heyday.
ChrissyPlummer · 01/09/2021 17:07

Receptionist on Tattoo Fixers was the first thing I thought of. I wouldn’t.

TheWholeJingbang · 01/09/2021 17:08

Have you BEEN to Paisley OP?

FawnDrench · 01/09/2021 18:16

It's like a dog's name - I've known 3..

QueenHofScotland · 01/09/2021 18:18

As someone who has lived relatively near to Paisley, I would say no.

It’s not the worst place in the world but it’s certainly not like Paris 😂

RuthW · 01/09/2021 18:34

Awful.

PearlyRising · 01/09/2021 18:34

Ive never been to the town but i like it!

jusdepamplemousse · 01/09/2021 18:38

Not if she ever plans on setting foot on the island of Ireland.

ItsDinah · 01/09/2021 19:45

Not keen. I know it's become popular in USA. If you like it why not. I think cultural appropriation of place names rather irks some Scots and Irish. You can appease them by telling them you fell in love with the place when you spent your honeymoon there. I'd love to go to a Paisley themed Christening party.

PersonaNonGarter · 01/09/2021 19:49

OMG a Paisley-themed Christmas do. Like, spiced Buckfast and Sunny D mocktails?

eggandonion · 01/09/2021 19:50

Ailsa?

KatherineJaneway · 01/09/2021 19:51

I'd think Ian.

Paige or Piper would be better.

annacondom · 01/09/2021 19:54

Crusoe the Celebrity Dachshund has a sister called Paisley. I normally like more traditional names but actually quite like it as a word. I would associate it with the fabric pattern rather than any person. So it's a yes from me.

AlrightThereSkippy · 01/09/2021 19:58

I think it's absolutely terrible. But I grew up in NI and remember Ian Paisley... not fondly! I overheard a child being called this in Primark in Belfast once. The child was in a pushchair and the mum was literally handing her a sippy cup of cola and saying "Paisley drink yer coke". No, no and thrice no from me (Skippy says no)!

Classica · 01/09/2021 20:01

A NI calling their kid Paisley is certainly one way of nailing your colours to the mast!

Yes, exactly! In a place where symbolism (flags, marching, sashes, painting your curbstones and having pictures of the Queen or pope) has a lot of meaning, Paisley is a serious statement! Or was when I lived there.
BastardMonkfish · 01/09/2021 20:14

I just hear big Ian bellowing 'say no to sodomy' Blush

Kanaloa · 01/09/2021 20:17

I grew up nearby and wouldn’t want to be named after Paisley! But then I think the same when people name their kids London or Brooklyn. Of course those places have nice parts but overall they’re not some utopia I’d want to be named after.

Different if it’s a place that’s also a well known name, like Georgia etc, but overall I’m not so keen on place names.
