My friend has a Novaleigh.

I quite like Nova.

manhattenrain · 18/08/2021 07:17

Love Nova. Sounds cool, strong and feminine.

GoodnightGrandma · 18/08/2021 07:22

A Nova was a car, the Corsa took its place.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 18/08/2021 07:22

Vauxhall nova?

DuggeeHugPlease · 18/08/2021 07:42

Not too keen personally but don't quite know why as I like Nola and Nora

pinkpinecone · 18/08/2021 07:45

Just makes me think of the car Vauxhall Nova. It's quite harsh sounding. Nola is nicer.

Viviennemary · 18/08/2021 07:46

No. Its awful.

NoSquirrels · 18/08/2021 07:52

For me personally, I think it’s a very cool dog’s name. Probably a German Shepherd.

ChrissyPlummer · 18/08/2021 07:54

Awful. One of DH’s relatives used it, hyphenated with one of the most over-used middle names. I just think of the car - which in my young days was the knobhead boy racers choice of vehicle.

Laurennjjd · 18/08/2021 07:55

I guess the car association will die out, but I’m 36 and it was still a car of choice for many of in my 6th form when we were driving old bangers around, so it does just make me think of the car

ComeonJulia · 18/08/2021 07:55

My husbands friend just called their baby Nova.
I don’t really have an opinion on it.

PearlyBird · 18/08/2021 07:55

No, no va.

Shapesorted · 18/08/2021 08:02

I prefer Nola too

Yutes · 18/08/2021 08:05

I like Nova. My DP thinks it’s a bit “.out there”.

Lockdownbear · 18/08/2021 08:05

Nora virus that gets discussed on the news every winter, sorry Op think again.

And it's a car, Vauxhall have reincarnated the Vauxhall Viva, after about 45 years nothing to stop them doing the same with Nova.

SpongebobNoPants · 18/08/2021 08:06

Where I live, Nova has become a very very popular name… sorry if I offend, but it’s definitely a chav / scream at your kids in the street sort of name. I’m trying to be polite and not classist in my phrasing but you get the idea Blush

GemmaRuby · 18/08/2021 08:07

I do like it, but prefer Nola

SycamoreGap · 18/08/2021 08:09

Nova is a car, Nova-T is an inter-uterine device, but I imagine that not a lot of people will know that.

PearlyBird · 18/08/2021 08:12

Nola is better. I like that.

IVflytrap · 18/08/2021 08:46

It makes me think of the story that Vauxhall had to rename the Nova in Spanish speaking countries, because "no va" means "doesn't go".

On the plus side, if you name her Nova, you have the built in obvious nickname of supernova.

Balonzette · 18/08/2021 09:16

The kind of name that, when very rare, can seem a bit bohemian and cool, but now it's starting to become well-used, has gained a slightly chavvy vibe. Blush Sorry.

AuntieStella · 18/08/2021 09:17

It doesn't work well in Spanish speaking communities (and other Romance languages would 'see' it the same way.

And of course there's the car.

Plus I've noticed it's appearing on a lot of puppies (the new Luna for canines?)

That might be a good reason for Vauxhall not to reuse the Nova name but for certain generations it will always be a car.
imonlyhooman · 18/08/2021 09:38

Love it. I know a Nova and she is one of the most beautiful, carefree souls I've ever encountered. Great name.
