Beatrix? I have no idea!

I’m having a very very unexpected first baby. We’re planning on having a double barrelled surname: either Springer-Gunnett or Gunnett-Springer (probably the latter). That mouthful of a surname leaves us little wiggle room for a first name!

For girls, I like: Annie, Erin, Martha, Heidi, Jessie, Hattie, Alice… but the one I keep coming back to is Beatrix (Trixie).

Is that insane? And which surname combination do you think sounds better?

For boys, God help us, because we haven’t even got a long list.

Gunnett-Springer sounds better to my ear. I think Beatrix goes really nicely with that surname.

Winwins · 31/07/2021 12:53

I agree

IggyAce · 31/07/2021 12:56

Gunnett-springer gets my vote too and Beatrix is lovely. If your wanting a middle name I’d go with Erin or Alice.

OwlBasket · 31/07/2021 13:04

Springer-Gunnett is surely better Gunnett-Springer sounds like an old fashioned job title to me with Springer being turned into a verb. “What do you do down ‘t mill?” “I’m a Gunnett-Springer me”. Maybe it’s my bilingualism playing tricks though. Spring, as in jump, is the most common, everyday word for jumping here.

Beatrix is fab!

SuperSange · 31/07/2021 13:05

Lovely name! Gunnett-Springer too.

Chilldonaldchill · 31/07/2021 13:36

I think Beatrix is beautiful but prefer Bea as the nickname.
I think Springer-Gunnett sounds much better!

BruceAndNosh · 31/07/2021 13:38

Love Beatrix but not keen on Trixie. Bea is nice

Ughmaybenot · 31/07/2021 13:39

I like Beatrix (but prefer Beatrice, sorry!), and Trixie is nice enough.
I also love Annie, Erin, Harriet (Hattie) and Heidi so we have similar taste in names Grin
Personally I’d go for springer-gunnett, flows better IMO.
Congratulations on your surprise baby!

Mumdiva99 · 31/07/2021 13:40

Beatrix or Trixie but not Beatrix to be shortened to Trixie.
Or Beatrice.

iamdashi · 31/07/2021 13:42

Gunnet-Springer is definitely better. Beatrix is lovely, but Trixie sounds like a stripper. Bea is much more classic.

YoungGun95 · 31/07/2021 13:45

Absolutely LOVE Beatrix. Would have used it for one of my DDs if their dad had allowed. Also think it goes with surnames fine.

Use it!

RosesAndHellebores · 31/07/2021 13:45

I thought it was woman's name then man's name if you were double barrelling.

I think Beatrix works better with Gunnett-Springer because the s's don't merge and slither over the tongue.

I hope Gunnett-Springer is just an example otherwise you have really outed yourself op and I'd ask for the thread to be taken down.

Evidencebased · 31/07/2021 13:51

Beatrix is lovely.
But then I would say that, as one of my DC has that name.
She now calls herself Bee.

iamdashi · 31/07/2021 13:56

Does it matter if she's 'outed' herself? She's only asking for name suggestions, not revealing her national insurance number alongside the key code to her safe.

ZenNudist · 31/07/2021 13:59

Beatrix is great. I do prefer Beatrice but either is fab. Nn Bea much nicer than Trixie

MrsGilly1 · 31/07/2021 15:02

Beatrice Gunnett- Springer sounds lovely x

MrsGilly1 · 31/07/2021 15:03

And even Beatrix Gunnett-Springer X

TwinsandTrifle · 31/07/2021 15:07

Beatrice Gunnett- Springer sounds lovely

Another vote here for Beatrice not Beatrix.

I can't read the latter without thinking of Bellatrix. Even Beatrix is Beatrix Potter Grin

Onlinedilema · 31/07/2021 15:07

Gunnett- Springer with Beatrix, I agree about the 's' sound being too close together the other way around.

PlainJane1000 · 31/07/2021 20:49

Another vote for Beatrix Gunnet-Springer. Of your other choices I like Erin G-S and Heidi G-S.
Good luck deciding!

2020in2020 · 31/07/2021 20:53

I have a Beatrix so I’m biased! But think Beatrix Gunnett-Springer. My Beatrix’s shortened name is Bea. She won’t ever let us call her by her full name which makes me sad as I love it!

Alonelonelylonersbadidea · 01/08/2021 08:14

Beatrix Gunnet-Springer is a woman who will go far in life!
Love it!

Pigeonorcoot · 01/08/2021 09:25

Beatrix is great. I prefer Bea as a NN though.

And I vote Springer-Gurnett but it seems I'm in the minority.

TatianaBis · 01/08/2021 13:58

Either combination of Gunnett- Springer is unwieldy and faintly comic.

I would drop the Gunnett while you can. Springer can't be turned into gussett or see you next tuesday.

Bumblecattabbybee · 01/08/2021 15:48

LOVE Beatrix!
