10 days old and still no name

Baby boy was born 10 days ago and we still can't decide on a name!

We love names that can have nicknames/be shortened.

My whole pregnancy we thought we would call the baby Winston but he just doesn't seem like one now. We still like it but not sure it suits him.

We like Arthur but not how popular it's become. But we like Artie and Art as nn.

We liked Malachi but it can be pronounced two different ways Mala(Kai) or Mala(chy) and I prefer Malakai and OH prefers Malachy. But we're both not sure. I like Mally and Kai as nn aswell.

Casper was also thrown into the mix.

I know it's silly but baby doesn't seem to suit an all out strong name and maybe suits something more chilled out or different/unusual apposed to traditional names.

We are open to anything at the moment and desperately need help!

Surname is Mcdermott often shortened to Mack by friends/family.

@ILoveShula that was my point, the overall naming is around 1 in 100. So yes like anything when it comes to chance it may be higher or lower but a lot of people think that it is more. You can look at the ONS for the region if you want specific figures for the region.

Interesting says of all the Arthurs born in England and Wales, a fifth were born in the South East

I really like Arthur.

MaverickDanger · 31/07/2021 11:07

The popularity of Arthur has exploded in the past year.

I know of six in the past year but none before that.

My midwife said she’d delivered 3 Arthur’s in a month!

Horehound · 31/07/2021 17:35

There's a reason things are popular and it's not anything to be negative about.

LynetteScavo · 31/07/2021 17:40

Albert nn Bertie

Congratulations!

How about Alexander nn Sandy?

Asher is also good.

Heh1991 · 02/08/2021 02:07

I love Arthur McDermott!

Other ideas:

Albert McDermott (Bertie, Bert, Albie)
Elijah McDermott (Eli)
Tobias McDermott (Toby)

RoomForMore · 02/08/2021 02:17

Atticus... similar vibe to Arthur and Winston. What about Henry, Hugo or Oscar?

RosemaryRosemary · 02/08/2021 06:29

Bastian / Bas
Sebastian / Seb
Louis / Lou
I also like Albert as a few people have suggested

SprinkleRainbow · 02/08/2021 07:19

What about Albert shortened to Albie/Alby?
Brooklyn/Brooks
Leonard/Leo
William/Will

My baby was 9 days old when we picked a name, then 3 weeks old when we decided that wasn't his name 🤣

Immaculatemisconception · 02/08/2021 07:28

Finlay - Fin
Matthew - Mat
Daniel - Dan
Howard - Howie
Lawrence - Laurie
Thomas - Tom
William - Wil

Inneedofaholiday · 02/08/2021 07:44

Names like Matthew, Daniel, Samuel…. strong names that can be shortened always work well.
Caspar is lovely but becoming very popular. I know of four born in lock-down!

ineedanewnameplease · 02/08/2021 07:46

Monty
Alfie
Bertie
Calum
Stanley
Rupert
Hugo
Dermott - jokes! Smile

Elspethelf · 02/08/2021 08:14

Congratulations! My list sounds opposite to yours, mostly short names with no option for shortening. Here are a couple I like;
Christopher/Kit
Edward/Ned
Graham/Gray
Oxford/Oxford
Rohan/Ro
I hope you find something you love. Maybe keep Winston as a middle name

Elspethelf · 02/08/2021 08:16

My post meant to say Oxford/Ox, but my phone thought it knew better...

PrimeraVez · 02/08/2021 08:20

I have a Caspar and it's a great name!

Horehound · 02/08/2021 11:57

Aw I like Casper/Caspar but I know DH will write it off
