Hannah/Hanna or Livia as first name - help I'm stuck!

DP and I have narrowed our names down to Livia, nickname Liv, or Hannah, possibly spelt Hanna which would be the spelling in my native country. I really can't make my mind up, I think both names are lovely in their own way. Any comments or suggestions would be much appreciated!

I read that Livia might be mistaken for Olivia, but is that a problem? Would the spelling 'Hanna' seem strange, being in the UK?

For middle names we're considering Rose or Orla Rose.

Hanna was the 142nd most popular name in 2019 in England and Wales. That’s the same as Isabel, so certainly not strange. In a vacuum I prefer Livia, but with Olivia being so popular and lots of Olivias also using Liv I’d be a bit put off.

I definitely prefer Orla Rose as a middle name. Rose is such a common middle name.

Both lovely names. Hanna definitely edges it. I think it'll grow better with her
Its sweet for a baby and toddler, cool for a teenager and sophisticated for an adult. The spelling Hanna is fine, BTW.

KirstenBlest · 15/07/2021 11:33

I wouldn't use Rose as a middle name. It's pretty and goes with most first names but it is every other girl's middle name.

Not keen on Orla.

Hanna vs. Livia? I prefer Livia but there are so many Olivias , so I would go with Hanna(h) Livia Surname.

Hannah

Synchrony · 15/07/2021 11:46

Hanna(h). Livia to me sounds like an abbreviation of Olivia.

I know a Scandinavian and Ethiopian Hanna. It doesn't strike me as unusual.

Uramaki · 15/07/2021 11:47

Hanna Orla Rose

NordicNoirRocks · 15/07/2021 12:29

Thank you all! Has given me something to think about.

I would go with Hannah. I adore the name Livia but because Olivia is so popular at the moment I'd worry it would saddle your DD with constantly having to explain its not Olivia.

Hanna(h) Orla Rose is absolutely beautiful!

ShowOfHands · 15/07/2021 12:42

I love the name Hanna.

There are 11 Olivias/Livis in our little village primary. It's so popular it's impossible not to be Livi A or Tall Livi.

funnyoldonion · 15/07/2021 12:49

I love Hannah, it's a 'palindrome' name so reads the same back or front, a mirror image of itself, Hanna is gorgeous too and I would think Liv to be Olivia and not as unique

TheNameTheWebsiteForgot · 15/07/2021 13:22

Hanna Orla Rose is beautiful 😍

LadyWithLapdog · 15/07/2021 13:28

Both are great. I like Livia more just because it’s a bit more unusual

KirstenBlest · 15/07/2021 14:17

@TheNameTheWebsiteForgot

Hanna Orla Rose is beautiful 😍
Written down maybe but it doesn't flow very well and my brain tries to 'correct' Orla, in the same way as it might try to correct Tyop
TheNameTheWebsiteForgot · 15/07/2021 14:29

@KirstenBlest

Flows beautifully to my ears.

35andThriving · 15/07/2021 14:31

KirstenBlest · 15/07/2021 15:07

@TheNameTheWebsiteForgot, it might be to you but I think it sounds clunky. Hanna Rose Orla flows better because it doesn't have two vowels next to each other.

Iliketeaagain · 15/07/2021 15:10

Hannah is one of the best names - and timeless, I've come across Hannah's of all ages.

Livia is pretty, but I think she would be forever having to correct people that it's Livia, not Olivia.

Zarene · 15/07/2021 15:20

I really like Hanna Orla Rose. The rhythm sounds better to me than Hannah Rose Orla, which is quite staccato.

Junipersky · 15/07/2021 15:33

I have a Hannah so definitely gets my vote.

blameitonthecaffeine · 15/07/2021 15:37

I love them both. I've only ever met one Livia so I might go with that if I wanted rarity (but then it does sound very like Olivia).

TheBeautifulSouth44 · 15/07/2021 15:38

Another vote for Hanna Orla Rose, such a lovely name!

00100001 · 15/07/2021 15:48

Of you call her Livia, she and you will have to correct EVERY SINGLE PERSON about her name for the rest of both of your lives.

17caterpillars1mouse · 15/07/2021 15:52

I love Hannah / Hanna. I see it as a strong, beautiful name and somewhat a classic.

Livia is nice enough but I imagine everyone will assume its short for Olivia, unless she is always known as Liv

Mumoftwoinprimary · 15/07/2021 16:00

Hannah is a palindrome. The world is better with palindromes.
