Looking for some honest opinions 🙈 will put my big girl pants on just in case lol

I still don't know gender but if baby is a girl we were thinking about naming her Bonnie. It's a name we've always spoke about and loved.
I have also been considering giving baby my grandmothers name (grandmother passed a few years ago), so middle name would be Jean

Not sure if it would be too similar to Billie Jean and she's get mocked for that song or not or if anyone else think they go together?

My first thought was Billie Jean, although I doubt she’d get mocked for that reference at school. She’d be more likely to be teased for having BJ as her initials though...

DramaAlpaca · 11/07/2021 14:51

It does give off a strong Billie Jean vibe, tbh.

I really like Jean as a middle name, it's strong and cool, but I find Bonnie really cutesy. But then, maybe the strength of Jean offsets the cuteness of Bonnie? I can't decide!

But the most important thing is that you both like it.

IHaveBrilloHair · 11/07/2021 14:52

I sang the song in my head as soon as I read it.

Mixitupalot · 11/07/2021 14:55

I really like it, I have a niece Bonnie-Jean (no middle names) and she’s never had a Michael Jackson reference.

CrouchEndTiger12 · 11/07/2021 14:57

It doesn't make me think of the song Billie Jean.

It does sound like a description rather than a name though. Happy Jean, Angry Jean, Bonnie Jean...

Half my family are Scottish so that might be why I think that.

India999 · 11/07/2021 15:41

Love it! But initials would be BJ.

DotDotDotDotDot · 11/07/2021 15:45

Initially I really liked it but now the BJ initials have been pointed out I can’t get past it. Maybe add another middle name, Bonnie Rose Jean? Scarlett Jean would be lovely as an alternative. Good luck.

StarryStarrySocks · 11/07/2021 15:46

Yep, I'm Scottish so it sounds weird to me. Plus Bonnie sounds more like a dog's name but dog names and people names seem to be interchangeable these days.

Bonnie Jean immediately made me think of Robert Burns.

bubblebath62636 · 11/07/2021 15:51

She would surely be referred to as BJ?

God don't do it!

miltonj · 11/07/2021 15:51

Love it. Jean is part of my daughters name.

VenusClapTrap · 11/07/2021 16:11

Nobody will know her middle name as they are only used on forms, so it’s fine to use it. The initials people will know her by are first name last name.

Mind you, I did used to know a Barbara Jane who introduced herself as BJ. She even had it on her work name badge. She was the sort of girl who totally styled it out - not a shrinking Violet! But if she hadn’t decided to run with it, nobody would have known that her middle initial was J. She’d have just been Barbara Bloggs professionally.

PumpkinKlNG · 11/07/2021 16:13

I immediately thought of BJ so would be an instant no for me

TheGenealogist · 11/07/2021 16:14

A fine wee lass, a bonnie wee lass
Is bonnie wee Jeannie McCall

It's awful. And yes, BJ as initials is just tacky.

willithappen · 11/07/2021 16:38

Oh no the BJ initials 🙈🙈

For what it's worth I'm also Scottish haha and I have no issue with Bonnie being a name here :)

Scarlett is another top option for us as a name so having you point this out is great!

Its pretty dire tbh.

TotorosCatBus · 11/07/2021 16:51

I like Jean but would avoid BJ

DinosaurDiana · 11/07/2021 16:53

I love Bonnie, but Bonnie Jean sounds a bit yee-ha .

Jeschara · 11/07/2021 19:40

Bonnie is lovely, dont like it with Jean. It sounds a American deep South name.

willithappen · 11/07/2021 20:23

I'll keep it on the board and keep thinking. Maybe if I give two middle names and have one before Jean it could avoid the BJ 🙈

TheGallopingGourmet · 11/07/2021 20:36

Love Bonnie

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 11/07/2021 20:39

Honestly, I don't think they go together. And obviously the initials BJ will be a problem. They are nice names but just not together

Firingpingpongs · 11/07/2021 20:46

I too thought of Robert Burns and being Scottish also think it sounds like a description. Bonnie on its own is fine
