Thoughts on this name, would Ari be a possible nn or would it inevitably be Asti

Astrid is lovely. Doesn’t need a nn

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 10/07/2021 14:38

It’s top of our list too!

crochetcrazy1978 · 10/07/2021 14:40

Pretty 🤩

FindingMeno · 10/07/2021 14:42

So completely yes. It's not so long as to worry about a nickname.

LadyWithLapdog · 10/07/2021 15:05

The only Astrid I know never had her name shortened.

KirstenBlest · 10/07/2021 15:08

Doesn't need a nn. Quite a popular name, if that's an issue.

Kanaloa · 10/07/2021 15:09

It’s nice. Ari isn’t a nickname for it though as that sound isn’t even in the name. Ari would be a nickname for Ariana/Aria.

I agree. Like the name.
Blue5238 · 10/07/2021 15:27

I really like it. I know several and all use their full name

NannyR · 10/07/2021 15:30

Lovely name, I don't think Ari works as a nn though.

AstridsMama · 10/07/2021 15:31

The Swedish nickname is Sassa...but my Astrid doesn't like that. She prefers Asti or Streedie, but tbh all her friends just say Astrid in full.

sykadelic · 10/07/2021 15:47

The only Astrid I know doesn't shorten it either. However it could be shortened to Ass... which is why I didn't short list it for us

RuthW · 10/07/2021 15:50

It's a perfectly reasonable name but not to my taste. Kids at school will shorten it to Ass.

Charlotte2020 · 10/07/2021 15:51

Lovely name- it was on my list but my husband didn't like it!

ILoveStickers · 10/07/2021 15:52

I've heard the nickname Asta - but I don't think it needs a nickname.

LivingOnTheVeg · 10/07/2021 15:54

I adore the name, and would be telling people not to shorten it, but I would have assumed before reading this thread that the only nn would be Strid. Ari’s a bit of a stretch IMO.

Classica · 10/07/2021 17:22

I really dislike it. But it's very MN trendy.

pinkpinecone · 10/07/2021 17:55

It could be shortened to Ass that would put me off a bit

NiceGerbil · 10/07/2021 18:00

I like it we nearly choose it for DD 15 years ago. I think it's quite popular at the moment?

You could see other Norse names for girls?

yikesanotherbooboo · 10/07/2021 18:11

Lovely name

Lilyofthevalleys · 10/07/2021 18:13

I love it. The only Astrid I know is just Astrid.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 10/07/2021 21:21

Cool, international sounding name. I doubt it would get a nn naturally, but I suppose if you called her Ari often enough people might pick it up.

Motherofmonsters · 10/07/2021 21:28

I have an Astrid, she a toddler but I don't imagine it'll get shortened

Piemam · 10/07/2021 21:52

Love it. Nickname can be simply A, if you like that.

Pinknblupe · 10/07/2021 21:54

My son is called Arie. It means lion of Judah. Anyway that’s off topic
