Roy for middle name

Cbd333 · 04/07/2021 17:37

DH's (deceased) grandpa's name was Roy and he would love it as a middle name if we have a son. First name is going to be Caspar, so Caspar Roy. Do you think it can be pulled off or is it too 60s/70s/coronation st!? I know other people's opinions don't really matter, but I'm just interested to see what people think. Thanks!

I think it’s fine. The old fashioned names have been back for years now, haven’t they.

Plus even if it were horrendous it’s only a middle name.

Classica · 04/07/2021 18:23

It's absolutely fine.

LidoLady · 04/07/2021 18:29

It's only a middle name, you can get away with almost anything. Roy is absolutely fine.

DramaAlpaca · 04/07/2021 18:30

It's fine.

hidethesquirrelsnuts · 04/07/2021 18:30

What about Royston if you want a more quirky/modern version of Roy?

Kanaloa · 04/07/2021 18:33

It’s a middle name so I don’t think it will matter. I don’t know the middle names of most of my friends as it just never comes up.

HappyDaysToCome · 04/07/2021 18:37

Absolutely fine for a middle name. And actually sounds nice with the first name.

daisypond · 04/07/2021 18:42

It’s completely fine.

Happenchance · 04/07/2021 18:42

Have you considered Royce?

LipstickLou · 04/07/2021 18:43

Husbands middle name. He has four versions of his first name. Not a biggie.

AbstractHeart · 04/07/2021 19:05

I really like meaningful middle names, both of my DC have family member's names for middle names despite them being old fashioned and I think it's a lovely connection to give them.

woodfort · 04/07/2021 19:08

It’s a middle name, it’s fine. Most people never use their middle names.

Have you considered Royce?

I think Royce is worse, surely?

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 04/07/2021 19:38

For a middle name to honour someone it's nice imo. If you were wanting it for a first name, I'd have suggested Ray instead - as for some reason similar Roy hasn't "made it back" just yet.

1starwars2 · 04/07/2021 19:48

I like it.

ILoveShula · 04/07/2021 20:29

I like it too. I know a Roy and it's fine. I also know a Royston and he's really nice. Royce is a surname.

EllaBlaire · 04/07/2021 20:34

I quite like Roy, I think it’s due a come back

Happenchance · 04/07/2021 21:00

@ILoveShula

I like it too. I know a Roy and it's fine. I also know a Royston and he's really nice. Royce is a surname.
Royce is a surname and a first name. Roy and Royston are also both first names and surnames.

Royston makes me think of The League of Gentleman.

Ifixfastjets · 05/07/2021 16:04

The roy I know would love to hear his name being used for a baby.
Good solid choice.
Middle name with a family connection.

TheRosariojewels · 06/07/2021 14:23

I actually prefer Roy to Caspar. I can also see it making a comeback. It’s Short and sweet. I don’t think it flows brilliantly with Caspar, but is fine.

littlejalapeno · 06/07/2021 14:32

They run together a bit caspaR Roy… Casparoy

Would bug me but might not bug you

Royston Caspar works

ILoveShula · 06/07/2021 14:34

I prefer Roy to Caspar too.

BunnyRuddington · 06/07/2021 14:45

Absolutely fine as others have said.

I don't think it's really a 60/70s name though is it. I was born in the 60s and the only one I know was born in the 30s, well apart from Roy Cropper but what's not to like about him? Smile

RuthW · 06/07/2021 16:06

It's lovely. It's also my Dad's name.

BashStreet1 · 06/07/2021 16:08

Lovely as a middle name to remember a family member.

I think it actually sounds great with Casper!

kieronsmum · 06/07/2021 16:09
