Amadeus?

DH loves the name Amadeus for a boy. I like it a lot too. Now I know it's a pretty 'out there' name but it wouldn't be totally ridiculous as we don't have a English surname. And we need a name that sounds the same in the two languages we speak in our family, and Amadeus fits the bill. But is it too 'strange'? And are there any similar names?

(I love Mozart too before anyone asks Grin)

Only if his middle name is also Amadeus

ApolloandDaphne · 01/07/2021 20:20

With the surname Rock Me (Amadeus)

ThatWasCrazy · 01/07/2021 20:21

It does make me sing the pop song in my head Grin but I knew an Amadeo (Italian) and loved the name.

Matteus? (Matteo)
Marcus
Marius

I'm having an M moment clearly.

The Italian boys I knew had the best names, but my favourite was Achile ♥️

Well you’ve got me singing ‘oh oh oh Amadeus’ love a bit of falco

ILoveShula · 01/07/2021 20:30

You both like it, so why not.

So, so many reasons why not...

I like it!

Sure, if you hate him already.

tillytoodles1 · 01/07/2021 20:53

No, just no. Poor little boy saddled with a name like that. Save it for a pet.

Flaunch · 01/07/2021 20:56

He’d get called Amo which is a pretty normal name although I quite like Amadeus tbh. I considered Horatio which is similarly out there… kind of wish I’d done it to be honest!

GreyhoundG1rl · 01/07/2021 20:58

Amo is a pretty normal name? Not in my world.

HeidiGerman · 01/07/2021 21:01

Depends where you live. Amadeus is actually quite a common name in Spanish and Italian speaking countries, as is Amo.

Absolutely love it. One of my favourite names (also because of Mozart) and I'd have used it if we didn't have a really, really British surname. Go for it!

HeronLanyon · 01/07/2021 21:03

I think here in the U.K. (if he will be living here) it will be a lot to live with.
Do you like Thaddeus ?

Amo, amas, amat, amamis, amatis, amant. (I knew it would come in handy one day).

Grin. I think there was an Amadeus somewhere in Kent too.. I'm sure I've been there!

Op....it's a little pretentious imo

TerrifiedandWorried · 01/07/2021 21:58

Amyas?

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 01/07/2021 22:50

Very brave in the UK - it's so associated here with one man, it's almost like calling him Mozart imo. Having said that, it has a nice sound imo. But if you are UK based, I'd be worried a shyer child could be uncomfortable with standing out so much (as Amadeus doesn't really have a more usual sounding nn either). Are there any other names you like that work in both languages? I like pp suggestion of Mateo/Matteo and Marius. Magnus? Antonio? Aurelius (Ray)? Augustus (Gus)?

Chilldonaldchill · 01/07/2021 22:55

I really like it. I probably wouldn't use it but if you have a "European" sounding surname then go for it.
My ds has a friend who's 3 siblings all have long names starting with A that are unheard of in this country but would fit really well with Amadeus

Chilldonaldchill · 01/07/2021 22:55

Whose not who's

M0rT · 01/07/2021 22:58

Love it!
