Aaron or Arran

We are expecting a boy in August and both like the name Aaron/Arran, but can't agree on the spelling.

We would pronounce it a-run not air on

Which spelling would you go for or neither?

Aaron would be my preference. Arran is the Island, for me.

Enough4me · 21/06/2021 16:06

Aaron, the other looks like a mistake.

4PawsGood · 21/06/2021 16:07

I would go Arran, as the pronunciation is more obvious.

Pogostemon · 21/06/2021 16:10

I always pronounce Aaron as air-on, so I would use another spelling. Other people might also get it wrong.

Arran is an island, to me.

Aron? Arron?

FourTeaFallOut · 21/06/2021 16:17

Aaron. Unless you have a link to Arran/ he was conceived there/ you were wearing a particularly scratchy jumper when you dtd.

DariaMorgendorffer · 21/06/2021 16:20

Aaron

sarah13xx · 21/06/2021 16:22

Depends if you’re Scottish or want that link to the Isle of Arran or not I think

OldTinHat · 21/06/2021 16:23

Aaron

TatianaBis · 21/06/2021 16:25

It depends what your connections are. If you're Scottish Arran works best, if you're Jewish - Aaron.

SpikeDearheart · 21/06/2021 16:27

For that pronunciation I'd go with Arran. I can't see why him being named after the island would be a problem given that Lewis, Iona, Skye and, arguably, Harris are all acceptable names. I'd probably draw the line at Rum, Eigg or Muck, mind you...

Tanfastic · 21/06/2021 16:28

I'd spell it Arran. I presumed the other spelling/ pronouncement would be Air-on

coconutmonkey · 21/06/2021 16:42

Arran

JoanneMB · 21/06/2021 16:57

I always thought it is Aaron

FeistySheep · 21/06/2021 16:58

I'd pronounce them both the same (Scottish) but assume that kids named Arran were named after the island. So it depends whether this is something you want, or not.

PrivateParty · 21/06/2021 17:13

I would spell it like the island if that's the way its to be pronounced. Or people might pronounce it wrong.

ILoveStickers · 21/06/2021 17:55

Aaron.

BackforGood · 21/06/2021 18:11

Aaron for the name

Arran for the jumper

Alwaystaketheweatherwithyoux · 21/06/2021 18:37

Thanks for the replies. I do prefer the Aaron spelling as we have no Scottish connections and have never been to Arran. DP prefers the Arran spelling though

Maybe we need to go back to the drawing board and pick something else as I don't want him to constantly have to correct people

If you're pronouncing it Arran I would spell it like that.

Kanaloa · 21/06/2021 18:41

I’d go for Aaron. It’s a lovely strong name, not too popular but not out there either.

1000glitterydicks · 21/06/2021 18:44

Aaron should be pronounced Air-Ron, not Arran/Arron.

DarkDarkNight · 21/06/2021 18:45

Aaron, I would assume it is spelled wrong with any alternative spelling.

NotAnotherPushyMum · 21/06/2021 18:47

We have an Arron in our wider family and it was a good few years before people stopped asking how to spell it.

stellarfox · 21/06/2021 18:55

Aaron. I’ve not seen the alternative spelling aside for the place!

Luckyelephant1 · 21/06/2021 22:16

What about Aron? I've seen it spelt that way a couple of times. Good compromise.
