Wilder/Wylder/Clover/Mavis/Saylor - baby girl name help please!!

We are expecting baby girl #3 - which will be baby #4 and are super stuck on names! Other kids names: Brighton Amalee, Turner Brandon, Rixley Elizabeth.

I have the name Wilder/Wylder really stuck in my head for her but want to hear feedback on thoughts for using that name for a little girl.

Also really like Clover - my bday is st. Patricks day and she would be lucky #4. But, not sure the name works yet or not?!

Mavis and Saylor are our safer options, but I keep coming back to Wilder/Wylder.

Appreciate any and all feedback!!! We would probably do Marie for middle name or something simple and more feminine. Thanks everyone!!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Clover is a cow's name

Saylor is awful and cheesy.

Mavis is an old sour faced woman.

Wylder ( not Wilder) is ok,I quite like it but not quite to my taste (but looking at your other kids names I doubt we have the same taste! )

It would be boring if we all liked the same things though!

ClaireB29 · 16/06/2021 14:29

Mavis is the only one that is an actual name.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 16/06/2021 14:38

Well you’ve gone pretty out there with the others so you can hardly call her Clare or Emma or something I suppose.

Turner Brandon? I’m wondering if you live in Utah or somewhere where those kinds of names are more usual.

But I don’t like any of those suggestions at all. Saylor is awful. Clover is fine but a rabbit name.

VenusClapTrap · 16/06/2021 15:20

I love Clover. It was on my list for dd but doesn’t go with our surname.

slb24 · 16/06/2021 15:24

Congrats on baby number 4! I really love Clover, I think it works great on a little girl and an adult.

Posieandpip · 16/06/2021 15:31

You can't have Brighton, Turner, Rixley and Mavis! Confused Mavis is an old granny name and the others very modern/American/surname style. Wilder and Sailor the only ones that really go with the others (these spellings, hate the other spellings). I love Clover but again, not sure it goes.

SoapboxFox · 16/06/2021 15:41

I like Clover, and Mavis (which means song thrush). Mavis would naturally follow on from some of the other 'granny' names which have made a comeback, such as Elsie, Agnes and Millie.

I don't like Saylor, but then I don't really like names that sound like an occupation. Wilder is OK, or how about Willow?

Mavis Willow
Clover Marie
Wilder Seren

TenThousandSpoons · 16/06/2021 15:50

Clover or Wilder would go best.
Mavis is an ugly name although once a lovely baby is born named Mavis it could grow on me.
Definitely not that spelling of Saylor.

TenThousandSpoons · 16/06/2021 15:51

Willow is a good suggestion

SongsForSwingingLovers · 16/06/2021 15:53

We are miles apart in our taste in names, but the only one of the current options I like is Clover.

wanderedlonelyasacloud · 16/06/2021 15:56

Wilder or Clover are cool, and go with your other kids names.

To me Mavis is very much a grandma name so I dont think it fits with your other kids names, and Saylor is too out there for me but I think a couple of celebs have used it for their daughters so it's certainly a known name. Smile

Winkywonkydonkey · 16/06/2021 15:56

Saylor will get tons of "oi oi saylor" jokes

What shall we do with the drunken saylor etc etc.

ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 16/06/2021 16:01

I really like Clover. It reminds me of the classic books "What Katy did" - she's Katy's sister, a pretty, clever, fun, and happy character. A great namesake.

KingPong · 16/06/2021 16:03

I really like Wilder.
Mavis is too old lady.
Clover lives in a field with her fellow cow friend Daisy.
Saylor is ok.

Hoppinggreen · 16/06/2021 16:03

What’s a “Saylor”?

Rocksandstones · 16/06/2021 16:04

Not one i’d use myself but I like Wilder and think it’s goes well with your other names. Much prefer it to Sailor. Clover is quite nice too and I like the meaning behind it.

HidingFromTheChildren · 16/06/2021 16:06

Truly awful names...they're for life you know.

alexdgr8 · 16/06/2021 16:08

@ClaireB29

Mavis is the only one that is an actual name.
the others sound ridiculous. clover is the name of a cow. and mavis is not particularly appealing. can't you pick something pleasant. if you want to give them a surname, why not higginbottom or shufflewick.
mumsiedarlingrevolta · 16/06/2021 16:08

Sorry Op they all seem a bit trying too hard for me.

And I know an adorable dog called Clover but don't think a very nice name for a child.

AuntieStella · 16/06/2021 16:09

Wilder/Wylder - sorry but even with the alternate spelling this sounds like a comparative adjective and I think it would be too difficult to live with.

Clover - ought to be nice, but widely seen as bovine

Mavis - OK

Saylor - 'hello sailor' jokes will wear thin. I would swerve this one (more so even than Wilder)

BorderlineHappy · 16/06/2021 16:11

Love all your names apart from Mavis.
Such an old women's name,it's not nice in any shape or form.

Sillybillypoopoomummy · 16/06/2021 16:12

what about Wilde? that is a girls name and pretty close to yours. Or Sawyer?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 16/06/2021 16:14

That's a nasty ageist comment about Mavis. Old doesn't necessarily mean sour-faced.

I'm afraid I don't much take to any of those names, OP, but Clover is probably the best one. I like your reasons for thinking of it.

CatRamsey · 16/06/2021 16:21

I love Clover and Saylor. I think Wilder could work on a girl. I prefer that spelling though, Wylder looks made up.

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 16/06/2021 16:34

I’m guessing the OP’s American, which could explain why some of the names sound a bit different to British ears?
