Hello! I’ve been scouring the lists of baby names, but wondered (for those of you who know lots of children aged around 0-5 today), what are the most popular boy’s names that you’re seeing?

Wow! Which area are you in? I haven't met any of these for years! (I know a 7 year old Christopher but not the others).

Ilikecheeseontoast · 11/06/2021 23:06

Jellybabiesforbreakfast · 11/06/2021 23:15

Arlo, Finn, Noah... lots and lots of them in the playgrounds round here. Also heard Cosmo and Enzo more than once.

Strangely, the boys at my DC nursery tend to have more traditional names... Joshua, Henry, Seb, Benedict, Michael and even an Ian. The most exciting names are Alick and Micah.

I'm hoping the names will get a bit more interesting when DC starts school. I'd love to meet a little Hector, Claude or Axel!

Roman where I stay!

Whinge · 12/06/2021 07:46

@daisypond

John, Christopher, Stephen.
Another one surprised by this. We don't have a single child with any of those names in our entire school. Shock
Somethingvague · 12/06/2021 07:51

Teddy
Chester
Freddie
Theo

Couple of Wilfs and Rafes as well in the more affluent area by us.

Peachee · 12/06/2021 07:52

Definitely Arthur

IDontDrinkTea · 12/06/2021 07:56

Charlie, Ronnie, Stanley, Freddie, Teddie, Archie… basically anything that ends in an ie sound

PurePeppermint · 12/06/2021 08:03

@SaffieSoph

Theo and/or Teddy. I can’t understand how it’s not number one - I know 5 in total and two more friends have said they’re thinking of using it! It’s a lovely name though!
It’s a tricky one to count, I think - people are either just using Teddy, or using Edward or Theodore, and you can’t count whether they’re shortening to Teddy or Theo.
89redballoons · 12/06/2021 08:43

I know multiple under 5s called Charlie, Finn/Finlay, Ted(die), Arthur and Isaac. Looking at this thread it's not just me!

They're nice enough names though, especially if name on birth certificate is Charles/Theodore/Edward and Charlie or Ted is a nickname for a lovely squishy baby Smile

Trinacham · 12/06/2021 11:38

Noah

Trinacham · 12/06/2021 11:39

I also know a newborn called Charlie

kat0107 · 13/06/2021 05:22

Thanks everyone, really helpful to see this - and good food for thought!

NcagainNC · 13/06/2021 15:39

Alfie
Theo
Zac

Adelais · 13/06/2021 16:43

Arthur, Teddy, Henry, Charlie, George, Milo.

CherryonBiscuit · 13/06/2021 22:10

@kat0107 most people in the thread are commenting on nursery and school age children and that's already covered by the ONS statistics so I'd suggest you start by looking at the dark greener website and look at trends there as it's pretty obvious which names have boomed in recent years (Hunter, Roman etc). The next set of statistics (as in the 2020 stats) should be out in the next couple of months if you can wait

Fairyfalls · 13/06/2021 22:52

Leo

Heh1991 · 14/06/2021 01:58

Arlo, Stanley, Noah

Thank you, I will do! Haha unfortunately I can’t wait, as we’re due in 3 weeks - I think the stats normally come out in August don’t they Grin
