I quite like it. I taught a Travis about 10 years ago so he'd be in his early 20s now but he's the only one I've ever taught. It does bring to mind that 'turn' song by the band Travis! But that's not a bad thing. I think it's a good name to grow into.

partyatthepalace · 10/06/2021 07:04

Um, I think it’s a bit of a downmarket name, TBH.

Checkingout811 · 10/06/2021 07:08

Travis screams Jeremy Kyle guest to me, sorry.
There was a Travis in my form at high school and he fit that bill.

PattyPan · 10/06/2021 10:36

I’ve always associated it with the kind of 70s/80s disco vibe for some reason. I imagine someone called Travis dresses like this

The 90s band

Spied · 10/06/2021 10:42

Initial thought is a farmer.

Frogcorset · 10/06/2021 10:45

It reminds me of a bit in Irma Kurtz’s book about travelling around the US on greyhound buses, where an exhausted, visibly poor, hillbilly teenage mother on a long overnight trip, keeps saying to her obstreperous child, ‘Where’s your coat at, Travis? Where’s your hat at, Travis? Travis, you are TROUBLE!’

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 10/06/2021 10:49

I like it, because I like the band

TakeYourFinalPosition · 10/06/2021 10:53

The 90s band.

I wouldn’t have said Jeremy Kyle at all. Perhaps it’s a regional thing!

PeskyRooks · 10/06/2021 10:56

I think it's a surfer type name like someone off Neighbours

TheSpanishApartment · 10/06/2021 10:58

I think of an american hillbilly. Or someone scottish, probably because of the band. But mainly a hillbilly with no teeth. Sorry.

TatianaBis · 10/06/2021 11:01

Redneck

user1493494961 · 10/06/2021 11:06

I agree with the Jeremy Kyle comment.

Sorry to derail but what book is that Frogcorset? Love books about travelling round America! Sorry OP, as you were
RuthW · 10/06/2021 12:12

RuthW · 10/06/2021 12:12

I've heard of a baby Travis recently. It's ok.

Seesawmummadaw · 10/06/2021 12:14

I know a Travis in his 20’s. He’s lovely.

bimbimbap · 10/06/2021 12:28

@suckingonchillidogs it’s called the great american bus ride

JamieLeeBee · 10/06/2021 12:33

I quite like Travers

SleepingStandingUp · 10/06/2021 12:36

Weirdly I think of the doctor on Grey's Anatomy that had a baby with Amelia

sadpapercourtesan · 10/06/2021 12:39

Dave Lee Travis. Not a positive association.

KezzabellaB · 10/06/2021 12:40

Chavvy. Sorry!

Gullible2021 · 10/06/2021 12:46

I see a turn of the milennium emo kid with long greasy hair, grey skin, baggy shapeless khaki and black clothing, depressed demeanour, who only grunts to communicate and who has a filthy bedroom littered with dirty laundry, unwashed plates and cups, leftover pizza boxes and an awful stench of BO and mould. Travis' mother cannot wait for him to leave home.

SmallPrawnEnergy · 10/06/2021 12:48

You'll get derogatory comments on here as it's not a hooray henry type name. It doesn't fall into Middle Class safety net or unique faux hippie.
I like it.

Frogcorset · 10/06/2021 12:49
@suckingonchillidogs it’s called the great american bus ride
Yes, and it's brilliant, if you like low-key travelogues about middle-aged women, armed with only a notebook, a couple of novels and a change of underwear, taking fairly rough longhaul buses around the US. It's as much about the people she sits next to and gets talking to generally poorer people as it is about the destinations, and IK herself is very cool. Thoroughly recommended.
