What do you think of Bambi for a girls name?

OP posts:

Reminds me of the Disney deer. Not really a name for a human.

Mousetown · 06/06/2021 22:39

@DalPalak

Isn't baby girl "bambina" in Italian? That's not used as a proper name though. It's just an odd choice. I would find Bambi quite a burdensome name to live with.

If you want something with a similar meaning, Alannah is a beautiful option.

Correct. Bambino is a male baby.

Never heard Bambi used as a name in Italy.

Phrowzunn · 06/06/2021 22:40

🤦🏻‍♀️

3CCC · 06/06/2021 22:42

You could be going to Italy 6 times a year but if you're bringing your dd up in the UK the rest of the time then it's a no

Marmaladeagain · 06/06/2021 22:44

Bambos is a male name and so I know a Bambi - but he has surname of the same heritage and makes sense.

crumpet · 06/06/2021 22:45

Bambi is not used in Italy.

antsy · 06/06/2021 22:46

Imagine if she was fat and built like a rugby player? It would be awful for her.

PattyPan · 06/06/2021 22:47

@ShonkyCat I’ve never heard anyone say Bambi for bambina/bimba but it could be regional dialect I suppose.

Interestingly Bambi is based on a book by an Austrian. OP, if you have a boy next time call him Pinocchio, at least Collodi was Italian.

Catipepo · 06/06/2021 22:51

My niece is Amber and we call her Bambi as a nickname- could be an alternative?

I agree with others though, not as first name

Patapouf · 06/06/2021 22:57

Definitely not

whatausername · 06/06/2021 22:57

She'll be left trying to constantly battle the notion that she's a baby and a joke. 1. Give her a chance. 2. Grow up and realise she isn't going to be some cute little doll you can tote about forever.

Nitpickpicnic · 06/06/2021 23:06

Nope, not Italian for anything- unless there’s a teeny rare regional dialect somewhere. Even so, they’d pronounce it Bum-bi. Not so great in English.

If you go ahead and name her this, please god don’t tell her it’s legit in Italian. She’ll believe it, and spend her life discovering- one Italian person at a time- that it isn’t at all.

In my neighbourhood a girl called Bambi would be looked on with great sympathy, and score a strong nickname early on as a kindness. So not Bam Bam, probably.

LaCerbiatta · 06/06/2021 23:10

@shuz1980

Bambi is an Italian girls name that means baby girl. Thanks for all the feedback though.
Bambina is shortened to bimba I believe (not italian so may be wrong here)
percheron67 · 06/06/2021 23:12

Great, Sister for Pluto and Popeye.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 06/06/2021 23:14

Please don't.

midsomermurderess · 06/06/2021 23:16

You could go for the very popular in Ireland Fiadh (Feea), which I understand can mean deer, not a fawn though. But there's a thought, Fawn. Bambi for an adult woman would be quite a cross to bear.

tornadosequins · 06/06/2021 23:17

You can't name a child "Baby" - they are going to grow up and have to carry this name through adulthood not just infancy.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 06/06/2021 23:21

I know a very pretty cat called Bambi - maybe save it for a pet?

megletthesecond · 06/06/2021 23:23

No.

dorangme · 06/06/2021 23:23

But are you in Italy/Italian OP?

Why's that relevant? Have you seriously never encountered people in the UK with non English names?

dorangme · 06/06/2021 23:27

What about Chiara or Sofia?

QueSeraSarah · 06/06/2021 23:33

I immediately thought of Bambi Gascoigne in the Young Ones. But you're not really serious OP.... Are you??

Feelinghothothottoday · 06/06/2021 23:41

You cannot call your child “baby girl”.

LoveFall · 06/06/2021 23:45

My feeling is it is far too babyish.

copperpotsalot · 06/06/2021 23:49

A friend of mine used to call his wife bambi. She was. Beautiful and elegant and clever etc. Etc. So by all means as a nickname it's cute but as an actual name, hell no!
